FOR SALE 1992 500E AMG 6.0L, Black/Black, 214kkm, $65k USD, Widerbody (Norway)

ADMIN EDIT: Copied this post to the "For Sale" section, since the car is for sale in Norway.

Hello guys. I bought this car last year in Japan, its originally a 1992 500E Pre-facelift.
It was Converted to 6.0 AMG in Japan, probably sometime in the 90s.
Now, this one has a Widebody kit on it, never seen that before! the fenders are steel from what I can tell , both front and rear!
brakes are huge brembos all around. Even the doors have a widebody extention on it, although that looks like plastic to me.

The engine is matching numbers , so its the original engine still in it. so it was modified by AMG Japan.

Anyone seen these widebody kits before or know something about em, or is it just a custom job?

Best,
Axel

VIN = WDB1240361B807829

Datacard: VIN Decoder for Mercedes-Benz

Car was originally silver, repainted black. Additional discussion here:

attached the japanese export certificate ( title) , saying 6 Litre engine.
Additionally engine number, original matching numbers engine.

It appears that is a non-original block... AMG likely used a different block for building the 6L, and stamped the original engine serial number on it. Factory original serial looks different than your photo. Are there other numbers/letters stamped on the block, possibly on the vertical portion right below the serial?

:detective:

I dont know but I can certainly have a look ! appreciate the input, wealth of knowledge on here!
Numbers check out but that is for sure a possibility. If you look at the AMG Japan Production plate on the drivers side the engine number is noted there too

Congratulations Axel,
May I ask how much was the Customs fees for this 1992 500E as my friend is going to go through the same process soon?
I heard Norway has a “veteran car” law for customs. Did this law apply on your car?

hi, it was around 11k Dollars, we have a 20% import tax.
what he is referring to is the registration tax on newer car which can be as much as 100.000 dollars. you avoid that when you have classics over a certain age.

There you go! That's the AMG 6.0 stamp, engine #23. (Edit: Probably AMG Japan #23.)

As for the import rules for Norway; we had a max range limit for the import tax at 30 years called veteran, where cars above that limit has a very low and fixed import tax. That 30 year veteran limit was lowered to 20 years last year, and the gradual depreciation per year on import cars up to that limit was changed accordingly, which is reflected in the tax calculation. The tax calculation parameters has also been changed from using the engine size (volume) and power as the main basis, over to fuel type and emission level as the basis. The tax calculation is independent of the purchase price, but the purchase price is the basis for 25% VAT which comes in addition to the import tax. So for cars from 20 years and above it's approx. 3-4000 NOK (3-400 Euro) import tax + 25% VAT of the purchase price.

This car is an hour away from me and I'll try to go for a look in the coming week. I'll check the engine number and the overall condition and report back.
