Model history and description:
The Mercedes 500E should perhaps be advertised in the Porsche category.
The 500 E was created in close collaboration with Porsche.
While the technical department was fully engaged in the development of the new S-Class, in 1989 Mercedes-Benz ordered Porsche to redesign the W124 chassis so that the 5.0-liter V8 used in the SL would fit, along with the necessary changes to the suspension and drivetrain.
Once finished, it turned out that the widened wheel arches did not fit through the W124 assembly line in Sindelfingen in three places.
That is why Porsche was also commissioned to assemble the car.
As a side effect, this arrangement caused work in the Porsche factory, as the company was in crisis at the time and the factory capacity was underutilised.
During production, Mercedes-Benz supplied parts to Porsche's "Reutter-Bau" factory in Zuffenhausen (a district of Stuttgart), where the 500 E chassis was assembled by hand.
When the body was finished, it was transported by truck to the Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Sindelfingen to be sprayed there.
Once the paint was dry, the painted chassis was sent back to Porsche's "Rössle-Bau" in Zuffenhausen, where the engine was installed and the car was completed.
For the final inspection and delivery, the vehicles were transported back to Sindelfingen.
This process took no less than 18 days per car.
Given the not insignificant new price and for a layman the appearance of a taxi that was quite anabolic, only 10,000 copies were built.
For example, Niki Lauda found that subdued appearance one of the great advantages, unnoticed he could reach Formula 1 speeds with it and park everywhere.
He won't have worried about it, for future and current owners of a 500E it is important that the car gets regular maintenance.
The driver should also not stop with his foot on the brake after a lot of 'peding' because crooked discs are an attack on your bank balance, the brakes also came from Porsche.
The only Dutch owner of this 500E knew everything necessary about the importance of good maintenance.
He just wanted a car that was always maintained by the dealer. The car comes with a thick file with invoices and of course the original stamped service booklet.
A car like this 500E must of course meet all the conditions that the enthusiast sets, damage-free, beautiful paint quality, a flawless interior, undamaged rims and well documented, for example.
This 500E meets all the requirements, and it is also reasonably priced.
A 500E was of course richly equipped as standard, for example there are Recaro sports seats and cruise control, this unit has as an extra an electric sliding/tilting roof, seat heating, an original Becker Mexico radio/cassette player, cruise control and electric seats with memory.
If desired, we will provide the car with the AMG rims shown. (..well, I can't see those on any of the ad's pics!)
We deliver this 500E including new MOT, warranty and maintenance.
