I'm having trouble uploading photos on this site. The uploads failed after the first three. I will try and upload some more photos as a response to this thread. If that fails, if interested, please email me and I can send a complete set of photos. I will send them out as soon as I get your email.

For a 94 CA car sounds a good price. Love this color combo!

Thanks. I read through the comments regarding other cars for sale and their condition and priced mine as fairly as I could. I suppose I could have listed it for $12,800 and let me someone beat me up for $2,000.

Oh I just took some engine pics if anyone is interested.

Wow! Very rare color too!
Actually, behind pearl-black metallic and the smoke and brilliant silver colors, the spruce green was one of the more common colors. I'd say the #4 or #5 most common color. But it is one of my favorites !!

Gerry et al.

When I bought this car I was told the radar detector was factory installed. There is nothing in the owners manual about it and so far I haven't found anything online that would verify that the 94 E500 had factory radar. Does anyone have any insight into this issue...if not, is there a better place on this forum to post this question?

Thanks

There was never any factory-installed radar detector. Ever. On any Mercedes.

Now, there could have been a dealer-installed radar detector, but that's a different story! I've seen quite a few 500's with the K40 "built in" detector systems. I personally use a Valentine-1 but with so many speed traps using instant-on radar, it's getting tough to have much of a warning anymore. (This varies depending on where you live, of course.)

Dave,

Is there anything that would indicate that it was dealer vs after market installed?

Thanks.

Dave, is there anything that would indicate that it was dealer vs after market installed?
Probably not, unless you have a sales receipt from whomever installed it, or if there was a decal applied to the unit by the installer with the name of the dealer or shop. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Spruce green the third common color, hmmm, is that for the US cars maybe? I think I've hardly seen one for sale on Mobile.de since I started with E500E back in 2006.

Update 07/27/12

I have had about 80 emails from Craigslist. No serious buyers. I will list this car on AutoTrader as well. I am now open to any serious offer. I would like to sell this car by 8/15.

I am located in the bay area. Interested in more info on the car. Am I to understand that the car has the original wiring harness?

Thanks

Likewise think this is a terrific color.

Now if only one would come up for sale with maybe 1/10th or 1/20th that mileage...

You want one in a specific color with less than 15kmi...? Wow. That's gonna take a few years of searching online almost every day...

Well 15k miles to 30k miles perhaps. That's double, so should offer "wide" enough latitude8-)

In that color and needs to be an original 94 as well...

Incidentally, I had just recently had the good fortune of acquiring a specific car that I had been "waiting" for.. Took about 23 or 24 years. Time.

I made a mistake, should have said 1/5th to 1/10th the mileage. 15-30k miles.

I doubt a sub 15k mile one would be in my budget.

Shouldn't take too many years. Fingers crossed :)

This car had some really bad fire damage and just sold at Copart USA as a non repairable vehicle for $5,300 to an international buyer.

Also - would LOVE to know what started the fire. Appears it was up front, not the usual fuel pump source... but torched both inside and out.

🔥

Still some good parts left!
Both bumpers (NLA I believe), rear deck, rear lights, probably the whole trunk and maybe some suspension parts... If you own a shop it would be worth a tow. I've seen worse show up at my buddy's yard and make him multiples of his money.

I was just thinking that same thing @gsxr... almost seems to have started in the cabin and not the engine... can't tell if the firewall is left.

Hopefully not someone's bad stereo wiring...

maw

Yeah, but $5300 plus transport overseas, plus customs... someone's gonna be in this for like $8-$10k to their door. That's a lot for a burned-out carcass. Could be warped metal around the firewall area, making it difficult to re-install the interior parts. There likely isn't $10k in parts here, I'm guessing someone wants to rebuild it.

...almost seems to have started in the cabin and not the engine... can't tell if the firewall is left.
Yeah, I was wondering about the HVAC blower or something. An interior-only fire shouldn't have gone into the engine compartment, or vice-versa. I wish BobC would share more info about what happened.

Hopefully not someone's bad stereo wiring...
Eeeek!

:duck:

I can’t see that being a good deal for the seller. Besides the Copart buyer fees if the buyer doesn’t have a spot on the ship and it sits at Copart after 3 days storage fees compound daily including weekends. I sense buyer’s remorse when it shows at the port.

What a sad mess. I’m not sure you could get back the $5,300.00 bucks in parts. This to me is a parts only car. IMOP rebuilding this car would be insane. The electrical would be a nightmare to fix.

The Monoblock wheels are probably the most expensive parts left on the car. The 500E500 unique parts appear to be destroyed for the most part. I guess the bumpers and lower cladding might be good but for the most part this is a crispy pile of trash. The typical 124 parts are not going to bring in much money.

Just my personal opinion.

lol

Very sad 😔 -1

Any knowledgeable body shop in Europe can get the fenders off of it and use them for some w124 wide body project. Just like I’m dreaming of one day building a fast wide body car out of a pre facelift coupe.

I wanted to bid on this car as a donor for a wide-body wagon build but after fees and transport it made no sense.

That'll buff out. How long before it resurfaces in Eastern Europe with half the odometer reading, fresh paint, and a clean title?

Yes, that price does not make sense, I don't see $5300 in parts. If it going to an Eastern block country, it will be used to ring a stolen 500
Yes, that wouldn't surprise me. Maybe the stolen Norwegian E60 AMG arise from the ashes in not too long time..??

Dave, I found this 'old thread' when trying to narrow down a bit from the E500E-sales forum..

I don't really think this would be the car which caught fire and was shown in 2024 - since the one in the ad I'll be attaching does have Euro-VIN plate on the engine front cross member, plus E/S-switch for 722.3 programmes..

Sadly I have no information about actual VIN of this car for sale here..

Some details like Aero wheels and the red painted "Brabus" valve covers are somehow intriguing..

Maybe somebody wills to start a new thread about the E500 in Spruce/Cream from 1994 - for sale at €58k with allegedly 176kkm by an apparently well renowned MB-dealer in Germany..

Greetz Alberto

And.. here's where I first encountered it - and then googled for the name "IGLHAUT" on the plates -

Let me point out that there is great confusion now.
People will start associating the IGLHAUT car with that burned vehicle.
Well thanks for making your point - I didn't mean to say the car with damage by fire in the US would be the one at the add provided by me..

This clarification I already wrote on the 2nd phrase of my previous post - there's just a coincidence in the colour, nothing more than that..
