The Appeal

The E36 AMG remains one of the rarest and most sought-after iterations of the legendary W124 E-Class, with Mercedes-Benz and AMG producing just ~171 examples worldwide. The vendor's research has reportedly found that only 57 were built in right-hand drive configuration, and of those, a mere 12 were sedans. Our example is believed to be the only black-on-black specification produced, making it truly unique among an already rare breed.
Beyond its remarkable provenance, this E36 AMG benefits from a complete body restoration undertaken in 2017, ensuring its structural integrity and visual appeal have been preserved. The car remains registered in the UK with its V5C present, ready for its next custodian to enjoy this slice of Mercedes-Benz and AMG history.
For collectors of rare German performance saloons or AMG enthusiasts seeking one of the most exclusive examples of the marque's early work, this E36 AMG represents an opportunity that may not present itself again.

Neat car. Pity it has polyurethane control arm bushings front & rear (squeak city). Bizarre to see standard, non-Sportline seats and non-Sportline steering wheel. The car does have Sport undercarriage.

Also, the front LCA's are not original. They are the early style with replaceable ball joint. These were never installed on 124's with M104 engines. THe car has 320mm Ate front brakes (from 600SL, same as late E500) but the early LCA's would likely need grinding for clearance.

Yes, that was something I found strange too. But, according to datacard, this E 36 hadn't gotten any 'boxes ticked' for Sportline seats (neither front & rear / nor only front, as in the T-models).

Interestingly though is that code 653 for sports suspension is present.

The 3 Sportline items (seats, steering wheel, and suspension) were each available separately. Code 952/953 meant that all three were present on sedans/wagons, or steering wheel & suspension on coupé/cabrio (no Sportline seats offered on A124/C124). Why order an E36 AMG with standard seats and steering wheel?

WAIT, I figured it out. The buyer wanted orthopedic seats, and you can't get ortho Sportline seats. Ortho is a rare option but also rarely still works after 30 years. The NLA bladders can leak and I don't think repair is possible. Still odd that it didn't have the Sport steering wheel though.
