Description translated:
We are delighted to be able to offer you this 210 jewel from AMG to offer you. Initially, this AMG rarity left the factory in Sindelfingen as the E 50 AMG, which with 347 hp already had sufficient power reserves. The fully equipped sports saloon in pearl white for a Japanese customer who loved exclusivity. who loved exclusivity. This was precisely the reason why the vehicle - before the long journey to Japan - first made it to Affalterbach, where the AMG experts responded to the special request to convert it to the to the performance-enhanced E 60 AMG. The conversion included a performance upgrade by AMG to the larger displacement M 119-6.0 catalytic converter, a modified axle ratio and adapted transmission control unit and an AMG wood/leather airbag steering wheel.

As the model was not covered by the standard AMG range at the time range at the time, there are no records of how many vehicles were actually actually produced. Only around 200 vehicles were produced in 1996 and 1997 according to the trade press on this particular model.

With a mileage of only 54,800 km and an unbelievable condition, which is similar to a year-old car, we offer you the rare
rare opportunity to acquire a genuine AMG rarity. Welcome to ROSIER Classic Sterne.

Odd. Why is the front engine cover different than the one on the LH 119s? I can’t place it. The coverage towards the front of the engine appears to be the same, and the airbox itself appears to be the same size…? Is the ETA not centered on the intake manifold on the .98X variants like it is on the .97X variants, and hence the air box shifts forward?

Maybe the front cover is different, longer, to clear the distributor dust covers on the .97X. It certainly looks to be the same airbox at least. I would imagine it sits and screws into the same 2 places (nut on upper right and a screw under the front cover) on the .97X too.

Good eye, Jon! On the 210 chassis, the normal M119 airbox will not fit against the firewall. The entire airbox had to be moved forward something like 4 inches. This required a custom, 210.072-specific airbox with the MAF hole off-center (front to rear)... and, a different front cover that is shorter by the same amount. Lots of custom brackets, all 210.072 + 957 specific. All NLA. I learned this when I owned my E60-RS RENNtech which had a RENNtech-modified standard M119 airbox, apparently they didn't want to shell out $1k+ for the AMG airbox at the time.

@a777fan,
Jon, That air box looks similar to a RennTech air box to me. Maybe it’s more efficient.

Just a Guess

Edit: Dave confirmed my guess.

I was thinking that too, but the front cover appears to be as close to the lifting eye on the .98x as it is with the .97x. Unless the lifting eye moved too…

EDIT: dave explained it all above :) thx dave!

The weirdo w210 e420 airbox/intake setup makes much more sense now. I always wondered why they went to such trouble for one model year. Now i know!
