5 Step Polish - Black Paint Correction

I know the CLS 550 does not belong here, but in case any of you ever swing by Baton Rouge, but I wanted to give you all idea of the paint correction that I performed on this car. I would gladly work on your cars’ and remove any deep scratches, swirls or holograms your pain might have even if you don’t have 12 hrs. to wait. BTW, no high charge for E500's

Here’s the procedure:

1. Surface was foam washed, then clayed with Meguiar’s Yellow clay bar (140g.)

2. Areas with deep scratches were touched up and wet sanded with 3M 2000 grit followed by Meguiars 105 with 3M 5725 Perfect It polishing pad and a Makita Rotary @1350 rpm.

3. First stage > (8 section passes per 18”x18” division) , LC Yellow pad with Meguiar’s 105 polishing compound., Porter Cable 7424XP. Speed 6

4. Second stage > LC Orange pad with Menzerna Super Intensive Polish (SIP), Porter Cable 7424XP. Speed 6

5. Third Stage > LC White pad with Menzerna Nano Polish, Porter Cable 7424XP. Speed 6

6. Entire surface alcohol wipe-down.

7. Fourth Stage > Turtle Wax Black Wax, applied by hand.

8. Fifth Stage > LC Blue pad with Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant, Porter Cable 7424 at Speed 1.

Generally you apply the sealant first, wait 24 hrs. then apply the wax, but the owner needed it the following day. Overall time spent on paint prep and surface correction = 11 hrs. 43 min. I don’t have any before and after pics of the interior, but trust me it was bad. Lot more pics of other black imports available.

Very very nice! Amazing results!!

Is there a "detailing for dummies" technique that you can prescribe, so that we can do it at home with simple tools etc? Especially for those of us with the metallic black's... would be a great help!!

Sweet! Black is such a b*tch to keep looking good.

Wait till you see it over here, it looks dusty only 1 hour after washing the car, The trick for us is a beige/gold coloured car. Silver is good aswell

Thanks.. Black is a BiAt<h to keep up and work on. My E420 has that gold/champagne color with darker moldings, nice color even on a rainy day..Unless you use a foam wash the car and use new microfibers to go over it, then dry it with pressurized air, you WILL put swirls on it..

FWIW.....
I use a Stihl leaf blower to get most of the water off after washing even though the neighbors kinda wonder....

Kind Regards,

Ron

Black may be a bitch to work on and to keep clean (though MUCH easier in Texas than it was in Oregon), but NO color looks better when freshly washed/waxed/buffed out.

That one hour of sparky cleanliness is pretty much worth all of the effort to get it that way.

Cheers,
Gerry

Lol, a stihl blower...I will make a note of that.., and yes after the work is completed, being able to look into that black mirror for a couple of minutes before the dust settles is is worth all the work..

HAHA - I do that too!

Nothing does as good a job of drying out all of the crevices in the grille before the water can dry and leave it spotty - especially if your grille is blacked out like mine. My drying routine is: water blade--> leaf blower--> Griot's waffle weave drying towel.
