I am honored to finally be a part of the 500E owner group. I have wanted one of these for decades. My 500E currently has just shy of 90K miles. It was beautifully refurbished by Bryant Kreaden (thecarshrink). A full history of the car with Lots of photos can be found here on BaT. She should be in my hands hopefully by the end of the week. Looking forward to learning a TON from you experts. - Here is a photo from the listing.

I am a glutton for punishment, I have had my 928GTS for almost 4 years now. Lots of time, energy, and $$ spent chasing the gremlins and getting them resolved. This one is an Exhibition Model only one of 7 built in 1993 and it shows around 60K kilometers or 38K miles here is a photo for your viewing pleasure. 1993 seems to be my year of choice.

I forgot to add my 93 Porsche 911 (964) her name is IVY - She has 118K happy miles on her.

My Pride and Joy and the very first vehicle I commissioned from scratch, this is Olive. She is a 1950 Chevy 3100 Thriftmaster. Not very thrifty anymore, she is running an LS3 on an Art Morrison racing chassis with IRS and Brembo Brakes. Lots of fun.

and Last but not least my daily driver her name is Joulesy - with my co-pilot Pearl on my drive from California to Texas.

Welcome Tony! Nice GTS shark you have there .... has the interior leatherwork ever been touched by Paul Champagne before he retired?

Anyways, I saw in the other thread that you are looking for 18” monoblocks. In my opinion, staggered 18” forged NEEZ wheels, which are an 18” forged “reimagined restomod” of the original 17” square set of MB Evo wheels fitted to the E500 limited, are superior to Monos, both in aesthetics as well as lightness..... and they are still available new....until the current inventory runs out.

@Jlaa is correct. If you are not dead-set on Monoblocks, both the factory Evo II wheels and NEEZ are at the top of the list for desirable wheels in the proper size/offset. Painted Evo II's are available new from MB (handful of sets remaining) at ~$2100/set plus tax & shipping. NEEZ are a much higher-end forged wheel, ~$3500 USD delivered from Japan, IIRC.

Brand-new wheels for a bit more than used/refurbished is worth considering, as used wheels are almost always bent and in need of refinishing, and refurbed wheels are not always done right unless you know for certain they were straightened and refinished correctly by a competent shop. This is harder than you'd think, btw. Might be some good shops in Austin area though.

:seesaw:

BTW @agsiress one thing ..... super duper minor nit that may or may not bother you —- the 500E badge fitted to the back of the car is missing the black line under the numerals..... that badge may either be an original badge whose black line has somehow been “replaced” with chrome, or it may be a not entirely accurate reproduction.

If it bothers you (I am not sure it would have bothered me much until I got a couple years of ownership under my suspenders) then you can contact @Ntrepid, who, for the past many months, has been reproducing the original NLA badge to 99.44% accuracy. Hey may or may not have any left that are not spoken for.

Also, the black line on the badge may be worn off from years of polishing and UV rays. They can fade over time. If the badge is original, the line could be re-painted. More importantly, IMO, is the location is off... not factory position.

EDIT: I think it's an original badge, with the paint faded/missing.

Gents, the 500E badge is original. The black line had been polished off on prior use. Reason I know this is because I sold it to Bryant last year. Correct part number/MB star is in the back of the badge. RE positioning: that is another story.

@agsiress Congrats on the winning bid and on what seems to be a very well cared for example. If the current badge bothers you and you are able to remove it without damaging it, I can swap it for one of the new reproduction badges with the black stripe, once I receive them from @Ntrepid. Only pay for shipping both ways. I am also a Porsche nut, aircooled mostly, so happy to help make this car perfect.

All the best during your ownership.

JAB

I love that you see the small stuff, as a new owner I am sure I will learn a lot about these magical cars. Once I get my fingers on it I will look. gonna reach out RN to see if he has any left. I appreciate you.

Not that I know of, the interior is bone stock.

Another air cooled Porsche fan here. Really like your other cars as well. I've always dreamed of restoring a Chevy truck like yours. Restomod is the way to go on these. Love everything about it. Looks like 17 or 18 Fuchs replicas on your 964. Very cool. Congratulations on the 500E purchase. I think you will feel right at home behind the wheel.

Thank you Drew, - and thank you for the link on the badge location

@agsiress,

:welcome: It looks like you have landed a really nice 500E. Yours has the same mileage as mine had when I bought it 16 years ago. I now have 142K miles on mine and have enjoyed every one of them.

With all of the great cars you have I would expect yours to be sharing more time with the others.

Congrats on your new ride!

Enjoy

Hey there, I looking to sell my 500E. I am attaching a PDF of the work done since purchase, major stuff, EURO headlamps/blinkers/wipers, AMG Monoblock wheels new Tires, Fliben cat-back exhaust and all necessary maintenance. BaT is telling me my "High Mileage" 500E will need a reserve lower than I paid in 2021 and the market has softened. Nothing i am seeing and reading here aligns with that statement. Would love to get your thoughts ideas or if anyone is interested in the car, please let me know.

BAT want cars with no reserve, as they are only interested in a sale to get their commission. Also I think that they have had too many E500E's offered so they get picky. They wanted my high mileage E500 at no reserve, but I declined, as if you get unlucky & there happen to be no buyers on a particular day, are you going to sell at 40% below the real value?? You only do this if you need cash immediately, which I don't.......As far as i am concerned the car can stay in its garage until the market price suits me....

Steve, this feels right. I am creating a page for the car with all the images, and if anyone is interested, I will give them a password to images of all the receipts (as you would see on BaT of updates, upgrades and services). I am not in a hurry, and it feels like BaT (under HEARST ownership) is starting to look/feel like the former auction sites it was designed to replace. Thanks for that.

Yes, the market has softened or corrected itself. Many vehicles were overpriced and the correction was necessary
Interesting that you mention this. At the Norcal SF Bay E500E Nerd-Group gathering / parts swap meet this morning, we were just discussing how the market seems to have softened substantially over the past few months. @RicardoD.

If those headlights are MB branded 124.036 headlights then I think the parts costs (USD262) and labor costs (USD3900) are transposed….. I am certainly guilty of the same as I age! 😅
They are NOT, and you are correct on the cost of those.. it was all the modifications necessary for the wipers. Most people don't do it, they just pull the wipers off, but I didn't want to loose that cool look/feel. So if you look at the US wiper, it is smaller and goes the other way. The EURO wiper is much larger as it goes over the entire glass and it is in a different location so its a bit of work and sourcing many parts, but it is now setup to easily swap to the OEM Lenses if someone is so inclined. Austin is not a great place to drive with glass like that I have had 3 windshields and as you know they are harder and harder to find so that is why it has been parked for the past six months as I don't want 3rd party glass.

@agsiress,
Your 500E looks outstanding don’t let BaT sell you out. You have only put 4K miles on your purchase and a ton of upgrades and improvements. It’s true that the market has softened and it appears this is not the time to be selling your car.

Things will turn around they always do. Cars are a risky investment. It’s your car and your $$$ and your decision. IMOP, I agree with @steve h hang in there and get what it’s worth.

Also, I agree w/ @Jlaa your pricing on the E-Code headlights has to be reversed between purchase and installation.

18 in staggered / Here is everything I have done to the car since purchase.
Hello @agsiress ! Would it be possible to post the invoices for the thousands of dollars of work from Mercedes Benz for "misc service - see invoice" and "major service - see invoice"? I think doing so would help you maximize interest.

Cheers!

Per this forum's well-stated rules, the price MUST be added to all "For Sale" advertisements. Also, the title of all cars listed for sale, MUST be consistent with the forum's protocol for Car Sale post titles:

199X 500E, Exterior/Interior Color, XXkmi, PRICE, (Location)

Car listings that do not comply with these rules or are not quickly corrected, WILL BE DELETED within 24 hours of posting.

you're slightly incorrect with your statement, the market has soften unless its something very desirable/collectable... E500E's are very loved though and do well in a strong market and its just everyone wants the car for free... good on you for not doing no reserve! i've seen a few past sales and feel the owners really lost our because of it. you'll have to hold the car for a bit...

that is exactly what I am going to do. - I appreciate the feedback everyone.

you can delete it, the feedback has been great, not a good time to sell. I was just asking for input from the board, if there is better place to do that, lmk.

Just move it out of Classifieds and take off the "For Sale" tag, then it'll be the basic discussion thread you envisioned @agsiress. Moderators may be able to do that better than you, IDK.

You might also do better with a Private Sale to someone local or known through the shops you've used.

Cheers,

maw

@xfadmin Can you pull off the for sale tag, and move it to discussions, my mistake. thanks in advance

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a recent sale with you. I got frustrated by BaT and their horrible reserves. I feel awful for those two who sold their cars based on these reserves. So I did a classified listing on Hemmings a few months ago and had 3 very interested parties; the 3rd came forward with a full-price offer. I have no idea how to post this sale. Hemmings does not post sales on classified ads.

Let me know what you suggest, as this is good news for the value of these cars. Here is the link

Thank you so much for your attention and participation.

Tony
