Are data card errors possible

Have there been know cases where a data card contained an error? From within xenrty portal, via my VIN, it shows that my car is "silver", but it's beige/champaigne in actuality. The interior color is correct.

I just googled "smoke silver w124" and indeed you are correct - thanks!. After 5,5 years I have learned my car's color :lolol:

For the E500E, there are THREE different kinds of silver (as MB named it).

DB744 -- "Brilliant Silver Metallic" (245 cars to US)

DB702 -- "Smoke Silver Metallic" (184 cars to US)

DB735 -- "Astral Silver" (0 cars to US)

That being said, there are DEFINITELY errors in the EPC/ISPPI system. Some of them are corrected via "comments" in the system (you can see these in the ISPPI, where available), and some are uncorrected. I believe Encyclopedia GSXR has either a list of documented EPC errors, or has the individual part numbers in his head where errors exist.

EPC errors exist, but are relatively rare.

Datacard errors also exist, but most of what I've seen are missing USA VIN's, or missing color codes, not "wrong" codes. Anything is possible though. W

kiev, what color code is shown in the datacard for you car?

He looks like this. It always looked like beige/champagne color to me. But, I guess, this is a smoke silver..

By the way, the trans is being rebuilt for the 3rd time in less than 5 years/20k mi, as we speak

Yep. MB calls that champagne / sham pain color "smoke silver", which IMO is confusing as it looks neither smoke nor silver to my eyes.

What happened to the trans the 3rd time? Which shop did the last rebuild, and are they fixing it under warranty?

:runexe:

1st rebuild was Sun Valley in CA, 2nd was by County Transmission in VA. The trans was kicking here and there, but consistently. Like when you slowly coasting in bumper to bumper traffic, say around 10-15 mph, lightly feathering throttle, and then, traffic speeds up, and you deep into a throttle to quickly get to 35 mph - trans downshifts with kick/thud. Or going uphill slowly and deeping into throttle to accelerate - trans downshifts with a kick/thud. Or, accelerating out of a corner - from 10 mph to 35 mph - kick/thud. Under most other scenarios it shifted fine

The work is being done under warranty. They've pulled the valve body and "did some adjustments" and it was still not good. So they pulled and opened up transmission itself and "did not like 3rd gear clutch pack" so it's being replaced now. I'm much hoping 3rd time will be a charm...

Dave, I sent you a PM with a question. At your convenience, please reply
