Ashtray

Re: Ashtray removal

Hello,

I guess it is posted somewhere on the forum already, but I did a quick search on Google Images and the enclosed images came up in the link below. It is from a W201, but the ashtray assembly is the same as in the W124:

Just slide that knob to the right and hold it. The ashtray has a spring mechanism that slowly roll the ashtray bin upwards so you get a finger grip and lift it out. That spring mechanism may over years get slow or stuck from dust etc.., so use a small flat bead screw driver on the edge to help it out if necessary. Pull it straight out, no force, no bending. But before you pull it I recommend to move the shift lever to N or D, it's a bit narrow space to get the bin out.

To remove the entire ashtray assembly, you just remove the two screws revealed when the bin is out, and unplug the wiring for the light and ligther.
