500E Battery Vent tube routing

I was running an AGM, but decided to run a period Mercedes-Benz lead acid battery. I think I remember taking out the old vent tube and now I don't see where the hole with the grommet is leading to the outside of the car. I also see the battery has a hole for the vent tube at the positive side as well as the negative side.

I have the new elbows #A 000 990 38072 the new clear hose #A 024 997 49 82 and a new block off plug for the side the tube does not attach to A 002 997 24 86

So can somebody confirm which side the eblow and tube attaches to + or -? Additionally, how do I route the vent tube to the outside? Detailed images would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Update: I think the battery vent tube is vented from the + side and then the tube gets routed through the rubber grommet at the low point in the battery tray area. I'm guessing the hole on the "-" side terminal takes the block off plug.

Anyone able to confirm the above?

Jeff

You can vent from either end of the battery, whichever is more convenient. Plug the opposite end.

The only place for the tube to exit is via the grommet pictured - that's what I would use.

There’s a vent for the battery compartment in front of the forward end of the battery tray but not for the actual battery. When I had an acid battery I added an 1/8” plastic tube from the battery vent and routed thru the vent to the outside.

A while back Jeff sold me a used battery tray in perfect condition which I installed along with cleaning up the whole compartment. Then I installed a new AGM battery. The AGM battery had a vent also. I would assume that it must vent small amounts of acidic gas also. So to be sure I installed the same 1/8” vent tube as before. It really can’t be seen unless you use an inspection mirror.
