There's an Ebay seller in St Petersburg, FL selling a lot of older G's. The only problem is that all too frequently the VIN's he provides do not match up with what he claims for the trucks. Stinks to high heaven and it ain't fish from the Gulf of Mexico. Buyer Beware!

Do they not match because eBay won't recognize the European VIN or are you seeing something else?

Yea, I bet those are euro G's and he's using US VIN's so he can get the EBay auction posted. That's pretty common but of course its also pretty common to SAY that in the auction ad.

The US Department of Homeland Security recently performed raids on several dozen owners of "gray market" Land Rover Defenders all around the country, confiscating and crushing their vehicles. Rumor has it that G-wagen owners are next. The Rover raid largely stemmed from a crooked importer who was substituting older Euro VINs on newer vehicles to get the import exemption for them.

You have to be VERY careful with pre-2002 G-wagens and Land Rover Defenders.....

He's providing European VIN's which can be looked up in the EPCnet. The VIN's do not at all match what he claims for many of the trucks - i.e. year model and engine. Of course, there could have been diesel engine swaps, but why not advise this to potential buyers! When he is asked about this, he does not respond. 'Nuff said.

That is very interesting. I have seen a few of his ebay auctions and thought he has a few nice trucks. Thanks for the warning - although I am far from being in the market for another G.
