I was in the middle of replacing the hose from expansion tank to overflow tank in right fender well and decided to look in left side since there was so much crude in right side. I found the charcoal cannister and wondered what is the recommended replacement interval as this one is probably 30 years old?

There's no specified interval, but the internal filter/screen tends to fail over time and allow carbon particles to jam up the purge (MOT) valve near the EZL. If the valve sticks closed it's not a problem, if it sticks open this can cause a substantial vacuum leak.

A new canister doesn't hurt, more details including photos are in this thread.
