I have to replace the cam adjuster solenoids in 1990 M119......the only ones available are 1190510077.
Does this require a replacement armature??
There isn't any clarity.
Do I need the 1110510043 OR 1190510043 ? or do i even need to worry about it?
05-2175 chart specifies if you install solenoid 119 051 00 77 then you must install armature 119 051 00 43...BUT some have suggested that if you install119 051 00 77 then install 111 051 00 43......which is it ???
OH..and...they sales guy at Pelican said that he has no notes associated with 119 051 00 43 solenoid that says you have to replace the aramture...or at least there is no note even mentioning the armature.
Can someone please clear this up so I can finish this job....please.
Thanks

Yeah....I have read that Gerry and thanks....but here's the confusion. When I go to order the parts from the dealer and ask for the armature they say it isn't required. Their parts guy said there are no notes indicating it is required to be replaced when replacing the solenoid.
Hence... my confusion.
I thought that maybe the solenoid had been redesigned since you did yours as described in RESTO PROJECT and the armature was no longer required to be changed.

a777fan I went to that link and I'm even more confused !! If I look up solenoid 1190510177 it either comes back "no longer available" or defaults to 119 051 00 77.
So...on engine 119.960 can I replace the solenoid with P/N 1190510077 WITHOUT replacing the armature?
If not then what armature goes with 1190510077 ????

119-051-00-77 is for M104, M111, and M120 engines.

119-051-01-77 is for M119 engines (but appears NLA now).

Mercedes appears to have superceded / replaced #01 with #00, and I don't know what the difference is between the two.

The EPC implies that #00 (still available) should use new style armature 111-051-00-43.

The FSM has dimensions and diagrams showing the difference between the old (104- prefix) armature & solenoid, and the new (119- / 111- prefix) components. See page 2 and 3. Remember to base your part orders and assembly on the factory manual, not what any part catalog tells you.

Talked with a friend at the local Mercedes dealer who did some "inhouse" investigation and confirmed that replacing the solenoid 1040500177 with 1190510077 doesn't require that the armature be replaced as well. I mean...if Mercedes says you don't need to replace it ...well then why would you ? Thanks for all your feedback. It's all about the knowledge gained.

Your friend is wrong. The FSM clearly states that when replacing the 104- solenoid with 119- that the shape is different, and armature needs to be replaced to match. The new armature may be backwards compatible, but that doesn't mean the old one is forward compatible.

Use the diagrams shown in the FSM and check both pieces before installing. It's $8 each for new armatures at Naperville...

I second this that your friend any any parts place you have spoken with is WRONG.

If you replace the cam solenoids with current production models, YOU MUST REPLACE THE ARMATURES WITH THE UPDATED PROFILE UNITS.
