Connecting rod bearing

Hello folks. I just received the engine from machine shop.
They have included new gaskets, bolts, etc. Everything seems to be the right reference for this engine but the rod bearings.
The set they have included is this:

Glyco 71-3477/8 STD Engine Connecting Rod Bearing Set
No Core Charge Required
Parts Interchange: 1160300060, 116 030 00 60, 05633016291, 056 33016 291

The box label states m116 & m117 engine but not m119. When I check online the reference I find this fits R129 500SL up to 1992. Engine code m119.960

I'm unsure to use this. Can you confirm.this is the right set?

Thanks

I do not believe this is the correct part for the M119 as used in the E500E. Per the EPC, the correct con-rod bearing cap part number is 102 038 42 10, and there are four "repair sizes" available in smaller inner diameters as well.

According to the EPC, this 102 038 42 10 part supersedes the former part number, which was 119 038 05 10.

The M119.960 was the first iteration of the M119, and used KE-Jetronic injection on the 500SL only for the first couple of years of that specific model. It was a very close variant of the M117. MB made a significant number of changes to the M119 when they went to the 119.97X variant, using LH injection, as used on the E500E, as well as the 500SL and 500SE(L) models.

For the M117, as used for example on the 560SEL/SEC, or 500SEL/SEC, or the M116 as used on the 380 and 420 models, the 116 030 00 60 part number is appropriate.

You have the wrong part, and need to get the correct one. Also, these 102 038 42 10 bearing shells are available on the aftermarket from Kolbenschmidt, in a pack of eight, for a very reasonable price. You would need to get two packs of them (16 shells total) for an M119. Here in the US, you could get the two packs of shells for around USD $80, or even a bit less.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Gerry

Thanks a lot for the info Gerryvz.
I will order the right ones.

Will try to document all the work and post regularly and hope to hear your comments if you see something wrong.

the 960 bearings are shared with the 117's..they both run the Big babbitt backed bearings. The 970/980 all have the Small aluminum based bearings.

Kinda wish they had stayed with the babbitt....it withstands considerable oil starvation relative to their alloy counterpart.

Have fun building your engine!

I've been checking the rest of parts the machine shop has sent and it seems the piston rings are also incorrect. Again the label states M117 engine.
They are Goetze brand and when searching online I find they are also suitable for W124 1984/12 - 1993/06

Thanks for the explanation. It's amazing the level of knowledge you all have in this forum.
I don't trust any other information but yours. Even Mercedes dealer mechanics have no idea when you ask something about these cars.
