Diagnostic Tool recommendations

Guys, any recommendations for a diagnostic tool that will connect to the 500 but is also capable of analysing the more modern S211 chassis?

Read/reset codes, read live sensor data, access the S211 SBC (don’t know if possible), and the S211 airmatic suspension to calibrate etc

PS I have no idea about these things, I just watch too many YouTube videos……

Nothing new will cover a W212 and a W124. I have an AST Retriever which is about 20 years old and it will support both models.

You need Star Diagnostic System (SDS), C3 or C4. Make SURE it supports HHT-Win, this is required for the 1990's models including the 124 / 500E. The SDS will do everything you need for a 211 chassis, and every other MB from the early 90's onward.

Try contacting @E500star and see if he has a kit available. Search the forum for more info about the SDS.

I was hoping one of these modern handheld iPad type things would be the answer as they ain’t too expensive whereas I think the star is quite pricey. I’ll speak to@E500star

There is nothing generic that will work for the 500E, or most 90's models. Definitely nothing that runs on iOS or Android.

New cars with OBD-2 can have basic codes and live data stream via OBD-2 only, but any serious diagnostics / coding / etc still requires the SDS.

The SDS is spendy (could be near $1k USD for a turn-key package), but it's worth it.
