Driving home an E420, 800 miles. What to bring?

HI everyone,

I am bringing home an E420 (owned by a forum member here). Car has been well vetted but has been dormant for the last 1 1/2 years or so. I am going to bring some ignition parts but anything else you would suggest to bring along just in case?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

For a long road trip, I like to bring a spare of all four CAN modules, plus EZL and MAF, and the few tools needed to swap those out if necessary. Failures are really rare, but if you are in the middle of nowhere, it could mean being stranded for days. I wouldn't go buy all that stuff for one trip of course, as this is a bit overkill. But if you have the spares on the shelf, it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

After sitting for 1.5 years I'd be a little concerned about fuel pumps leaking, more so if it had ethanol blend gas while parked.

What's the color combo on your new 034?

Just to be clear to the new owner:

—Car has not actually been dormant, ~2.5K miles in the last 1.5 years;
—Car had new caps/rotors/insulators/wires ~2.5K miles ago; no need for another set…
—Car will leave here with it’s original working LH module in the trunk, changed to WOT LH 2.5K miles ago;
—Car runs PERFECTLY at this time; EZL, MAF, etc. will make this trip with one hand tied behind their backs;
—Zero evidence of ANY leaks of any kind, fuel pump and hoses dry as a bone;
—All filters changed 2.5K miles ago.

I would be comfortable driving this beauty across the country with no more than some spare fuses (will include) and a VISA card.

I can't wait to see and drive this beautiful machine. Really looking forward to experiencing all of the work that you did with the Sportline suspension and bringing the car to such a high level.

I would bring a spare belt and the tools to change it. I nearly had one fail when I bought my 95 E420 however thankfully I was right down the street from an Auto Zone with the belt in stock which was next-door to a Harbor Freight.

I should add that I also flew to Atlanta and drove the car back home to Delaware.

Home is Michigan. Will be going from New Hampshire down to Albany, NY and taking 90 west to Buffalo. Then, may cross into Canada or follow 90 along Lake Erie, Cleveland and up through Detroit.
Sounds like a fantastic road trip! Don't forget to snap a few pics along the way. 📷

I live in Albany, close to exit 24 and very close to exit 23 of the Thruway. If you need help when passing thru let me know. Cell # 518 424-3560.
I stopped to visit Peter when passing through Albany a few years ago, and checked out his W124. Had great time!
