E500 (w/AMG badges & wheels) spotted

Finally spotted an .036 long enough to grab some pics. About 2.5 hours ago in West Hollywood at the Bristol Farms parking lot. Got a pic of the VIN as well...I think this car was shown here before. I din't get too close to the car to capture the interior, I was already getting weird looks from near by shoppers while shooting from a few feet away. I waited for the owner for a few minutes, but I had to get home to work and after 5 minutes I left.

Imho, it needs Euro headlights to tie in the overall look.

No prior record of this car in my database other than typical datacard information from MB.

Strange, it appears to have standard W124 lights... not even the proper USA-spec E500 lights. Check out the AMG exhaust, looks like the AMG Japan muffler tips. Love the wheels too.

:deniro:

Indeed, someone's done a bit of (generally tasteful) cosmetic tweaking. I could do without the AMG badges on the front and back of the car, though.

What does VIN indicate, pre facelift or facelift 94 on ?? I'm thinking probably just upgraded early model since E500 badge incorrectly placed and wrong headlamps.

The VIN indicates it's indeed a 1994 (facelifted) model. I can check my database when I get home later today to check the exact month of production.

However the trunk badge (while generally in the correct position) is not installed quite correctly -- looks like there is a bit of extra space between the "E" and the "500". And the AMG badge ... well is that "proper"? I guess it depends on who one asks....but I say emphatically "No!"

Cheers,
Gerry

We need some cards made up that we can leave behind on the 500E / E500 s we spot that would point them to the 500Eboard.

Bloody good idea! :headbang: But we need to be careful not to slate 'em too much (guilty of this myself) , they might shy away before they even sign up :roadrunner:

So? I get those all the time! ;-)

I wish I saw more .036's in the wild ;(
It's just the type of people who live in that area, very suspicious around their cars. My nick of the woods is filled with all kinds of expensive cars and I see just about all makes and models. So having a guy wearing all black along with a Black Flag t-shirt taking pictures raises eyebrows right away.

This only my third .036 sighting in the past 1.5 years and both were in the same Bristol Farms parking lot.

I too was thinking about leaving a note, but felt that was a bit much, I rather meet the owner/driver and talk. Maybe next time.

Btw, as far as business cards, I did have one created a while ago, right after my car was boxed in at a parking lot - I had to climb in through the passenger side... I've since left a few of these cards on much deserved car's with owners/drivers who shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel.

I too find this need to be weird. Why the need to "lie" about what you have, I can see someone with a "lesser" car wanting to draw attention (cause that's all this is...sad), but this a Porsche build .036 at your disposal...why not just slap on a Porsche badge.

I used to slap this on the windscreen of an inconsiderate driver:

The AMG badge does not belong on a non-AMG build car. (regardless of what other AMG items are on the car) But the glaring error is the AMG logo style, which was phased out in the 88-89 time frame.

My E500 also had an AMG badge on the trunk when I bought a few years ago. Not sure which previous owner put it there or why. I had it taken off.

Your just trying to stir up trouble
Not at all, if it came across that way, it wasn't meant that way. I look at the .036 E60 AMG cars as AMG cars. Although (knowing myself) if I had one, it would be debadged...but that's just me.

Well...Mr. BMW did say F-u first, so all things considered, the response seems to be appropriate.
Rather wimpy firepower, by Texas standards at least. I prefer something a little more, well, able for these types of situations..... (30 rounds)

For days when I'm in a pretty decent mood, I just use one of these from the pad of sticky notes I carry ....

Overbadging is not my taste, either AMG, Brabus or whatever. I also find the Sportline badge totally out on an 036.
Badging can be fine if it consolidates something with the car, but the AMG badge is too serious to play with IMO. Only the real documented stuff gives the best feeling for me. I know I repeat myself, but I will never badge the SuperMerc as E60 AMG, despite it has all the E60 upgrades.

I think people not having the deep knowledge and enthusiasm for the 036, does different badging just because it look nice, so it can be seen as harmless fun. An the best is it can just be taken off.
