Hello Gents,

This is from a 1995 C36.

Can an expert tell me what is the role of this control module in relation to car ECU as well as function overall?

Thank you in advance!

If the DM function is the same on the C36 as on all W124 chassis, the ONLY function is to control the CEL. It's a "watchdog" that monitors data via CAN bus, from the ECU (and any other modules). When it detects any abnormalities that could affect emissions output, it triggers the CEL and stores a fault code.

On the W124, the DM and CEL are only present on North American models. Neither are used in ROW. The DM can be disconnected and the only effect is the CEL no longer works. The C36 may be the same.
