Front headrest removal

My apologies for dumb question - how to remove the front seat headrest? Manual says there is a magic button that needs to be depressed from the back... I think I located the mechanism on the back but I believe that if I press more on it I'll go through the seat... Is there a way to remove the headrest without major surgery to the seat itself?

I just did this very recently. I couldn't extract the headrest when the seat was in an upright position (it wouldn't move at all, no matter how I pressed that magic button), but when I reclined the seat, headrest came out easily. It's likely just a coincidence, but try that - won't hurt

I believe you have to extend the headrest all the way up and *then* push the button while pulling up on the headrest. If it is down, it is no use. Pressing the button is to get the tip of the shaft which is wider out.

This is correct: ^^^ Extend it all the way up, then press & release.

It's a PITA job. As Ntrepid says, you must extend the headrest to its highest position before attempting it. An extra pair of hands can be useful - one person sits on the back seat pushing with all their might on the "magic" button, while the other kneels on the front seat tugging upward on the headrest.

Correct. The headrest travel mechanism is connected to the end of one of the metal shafts. The end of that shaft is shaped so it locks into the mechanism that moves up and down. You extend the headrest all the way up so the locking tab is aligned with the 'magic' button on the seat back. The tab is spring loaded so push and hold in the button in while pulling up on the headrest to remove it. Probably more info. than needed but . . .

As mentioned easier if you have a helper.

Regards,

Peter Weissman
