At that time, the car was located in Beverly Hills, CA, and had 88,900 miles on the odometer.

My notes on the vehicle are brief, but as follows:

Seller says: loaded 2 sets, chrm rims, 1st start, chips, keyless ent, bluetooth ph. Asking $20,995.

UPDATE 11-7-05: On AutoTrader, asking $24,995.

Odd, I guess no sale was consummated in '05... since current seller is claiming 23 yrs of ownership. Also, :nitpick: interesting to note that the current seller claims the chrome rims came on the car and is including the originals, yet these chrome rims are not the ones in the autotrader ad....

I looked at this car yesterday. Didn't drive it, didn't start it.

if you're at all picky about paint, make sure you put eyes on the car prior to a purchase. Near all panels have had paint work. I brought a paint meter, didn't need to use it.

no idea mechanically, although I can say it doesn't appear to have been driven much recently.

Well its 26 year old car so its either original paint faded or it repainted or its mint and more money

I think in general, if you want a car that doesn't need any paint correction, and/or has original paint that is excellent, you will be looking at cars about double this price point. Especially if you are bringing a paint meter and not driving the car if it doesn't look pristine. Depends if you want to pay that up front, or pay for a nice paint job later on after enjoying the car as-is, and deciding if you want to keep it & invest in the paint.

The comments are useful, please continue to share information. I simply meant that while I understand trying to find the paint quality you're looking for at this price range, it is very unlikely to find it.

Also, if you haven't owned or driven a number of different E500E's, it would be a good idea to drive any you can get your hands on!

To me, there's acceptable paint work and unacceptable paint work. The $18k Sacramento car has acceptable paint work, but quarter million miles deters me.

im picky to the point that my expectations are unreasonable- but I'd rather faded paint than bad paint. Next up, Laguna Woods car....

I share your thoughts on faded/scratched/damaged paint vs. bad paint. A bad paint job is more expensive to correct and shows an unwillingness to do a job correctly which can be indicative of poorly performed maintenance. I personally am not concerned much with mileage on an 036. I have found them to be one of the most durable cars ever built. I would be especially concerned that any maintenance that has been done has been done correctly with OEM or acceptable aftermarket parts. Unreasonable expectations abound amongst us here. Your comments are much appreciated.

Despite a few people here getting butt-hurt and/or thinking it's unfair to comment and call out a car's condition honestly, I welcome it and have no problem with commenting at all. There are a couple of people who are consistently a bit harsh in their comments, but I don't think they mean anything personal by it.

I'd rather people speak honestly when they see/drive a car, than not say anything at all.
