My database records on this car date back from September, 2004, when the car was located in Northern New Jersey, and had 68,000 miles on it. It was listed on eBay at that time. An update exists from April of 2005.

Here are my notes on this car, and I have attached a copy of the eBay auction from that point in time.

Has aftermarket CD/radio with original available. Console wood has 2 cracks; buyer says has new wood. Dings removed, fully detailed

UPDATE 4-3-05: Car listed again on eBay, Car looks clean except for stated cracks in console and dash wood; says has new tires and floormats. Interesting, pics show 2 AMG "star" SL wheels and 2 Monoblock IIs on each side of the car, but not even offered with it !!

The car seems to have crept up in value over the past 10 years, despite increased mileage.

Those rims looks painted which means they are not original. Aftermarket stereo. After you get the VIN, you should know how many owners and the mileage done over time. If this car has spent considerable time in Massachusetts (seeing the license plate), you may want to check for rust in case it was driven in Winter.

I corresponded with the seller on this a few weeks ago before I purchased the car I did (more on that when it arrives...). Here is what he shared in addition to the text in the ad:

1 - Any paintwork/accidents?

No paintwork has been done that I am aware of. I had a detailed PPI done before my purchase and they couldn’t find any evidence of paintwork or accidents. Car is original.

2 - Do you have all keys/manuals?

I have two sets of keys and manuals

3 - Any fluid leaks?

No fluid leaks.

4 - Has it been smoked in or otherwise have any unusual odors?

No odors. No smoke.

5 - Does the AC (and all the other power equipment) work properly?

AC works. All power equipment works. No dash warning lights.

6 - What is the extra LED light among the center stack switches?

I don’t know what that light is. Is it not original? I will have to investigate.

7 - Any needs that you know of?

Car needs nothing. I always had any maintenance items done whenever they popped up.

8 - Why selling?

It’s not my primary car. I’ve owned it about 2 years. I had always wanted one. Drove it about 2500 miles and loved it. Just moving on to something else. No reason related to the car itself.

He sent hi-res photos which I will share below. For me, the price was higher than I thought the condition warranted, but he emailed me today and said that the car is still available and the price negotiable.

Driver's side seat bolster looks excellent. Not many sellers provide a photo of that. From the few photos provided it looks like a nice car.

I listed the car in a couple places the last few months and it's interesting how all potential buyers seem to come here for reference. This truly is the source! Anyway, the car is in very good condition, but not one interested party has followed through and done a PPI.. Is my price that high?

I don't think so. Under carriage photos (wheels off) might help get you over the line, though. Dover, MA is probably a wonderful place. It just may not be high on buyers' lists of places to buy cars, because of humidity, snow and rust. The older the car, the greater the fears. Under carriage photos will confirm or allay those fears. This is really the "I don't wanna sell it" price, dealer flip-job, if they sit on it 10 years it's only gonna go up and they know it. Been seeing this with a lot of low-mileage Caddys on eBay. 90k miles......yeah, that's cool, it's under 100k, but I guarantee you a car with 150k is just as likely, if not moreso, to be as menchanically sound, and knowing these motors can easily go 400k, and the fact that if you buy one back of 200k you're not gonna mile it up anyway, what's the draw?

I think if they didn't want to sell it they wouldn't be reducing the price. I'm surprised at the condition of the wood trim. A few hundred bucks at Madera would make the car show ten times better.

Looks nice, $25k is fine, love the black interior, its not for us to "approve" your purchase, just buy it an enjoy, and there always deferred maintenance. Do you do a lot of work on your cars yourself? Is there good maintenance documentation on this car?

Bill, great recommendation. From what I've read about the dealer, they are a "used car dealer" in their reputation. The car could be a solid one, but you never know.

This car is almost 25 years old and is approaching 100k miles (which I consider low) depending upon who owned it in the past perhaps some items may need updating soon. Spark plug wires, trans fluid, diff fluid, brake fluid, coolant, oxygen sensor [to name a few]. These are not big items but unless you have records its good to refresh your car with all new fluids, and some other items that you can be pro-active about to keep your car running strong. Look at the HOW-TO section of the forum, and you will see some very common and not so common items that could need taking care of. I think our Site Honcho gerryvz talks about the $5k of deferred maintenance on these cars. But it all depends if there are maintenance records on the car, if the dealer maintenance book is fully stamped and filled out. Sounds like others are saying to have the car properly inspected, looks clean in the photos, but need to look at it underneath as well.

Price has been "reduced" to $46,800.
Recall that this example sat in inventory on the east coast for a looooong time in the upper $20's.

The Carfax shows the car being Titled in CA after it sold out of NYC. And now it's being sold again, five months later.

WOW, that is a massive price drop. Estimating what they paid for it by the previous listings, seems like they just want to unload it without a loss.

We will see the first $0.2M+ price in the next few years.
