********* SOLD *************

For sale: Brand new Mercedes-Benz 500E black leather steering wheel.

This is a new wheel that is still in the original wrapper. I have been told that these 390mm 500E/Sportline steering wheels are NLA from Mercedes-Benz.

The wheel has a 1992 production date. The only other numbers I can see are "10 469". Note that it has the spoke pattern to match the later style airbag (not included).

Last retail price for this wheel was $1XXX and I paid $750. Will sell for $450 shipped!

If you want/need this wheel make me a reasonable offer and we'll talk :) It isn't doing me any good collecting dust!

Indeed, from what I can see this wheel is no longer available from MB. Would be a nice part to have on hand.

Just a note...I don't believe this wheel will work on '94 MY cars. The hub is the earlier style for '92 - '93 cars.

Indeed, there was a switchover for the 1994 model year (and 1995 on other W124s). It will not work as a bolt-on, but if you retrofit the guts from a later car's wheel into this wheel, it will work. Indeed 94 model year cars had a separate part number.

It's fairly simple to exchange guts of the wheels; I did this this past summer with an earlier (1993) model year leather wheel I brought home from Belgium, replacing the wheel on my wife's 95 124 wagon.

2Phast has also done this and documented it I believe.

Cheers,
Gerry

Actually its a bit more complicated. To install a 92-93 wheel on a 94-95 car requires a bit of Dremel work as you need to enlarge one hole and cut out another hole in the back plate. Its much simplier to install a 94-95 wheel on a 92-93 car, and as Gerry already mentioned, it just requires swapping over your horn contact ring.

92-93 wheel hub, notice one hole
