FOR SALE FS: SoCal - LH module + 16" 8 hole rims, $1450 + receive a complimentary 1992 400E!! :)

Although I drive this car daily, It as approached the status of "parts car", hence why I mentioned the LH module(which also has a chip with the updated software) and R129 SL 16" 8 hole wheels(which i think are identical width and offset as the 500e stockers?) This car drives fine, but the transmission skips 2nd gear, and it just doesnt make sense to pay for a rebuild. Car also has the "600/avantgarde" grille

I purchased my 1992 Spruce green on cream beige 6 months ago as a get-around car after someone stole my Ducati.. Purchased from the second owners whom had it since 1997.. they took pretty good are of it and serviced it regularly from 90k-200k miles(or 3/4 years ago) since then, and now with 256k miles, it has had little work done and several items neglected/deferred..

I am selling this as I just took a new job about .5 mile from my home and need to make a few sacrifices until i can build my book of business again(so I can buy a 500e of course)

Condition:

Body - near perfect, no dents, and appears all original
Paint - hood, fenders, quarters and doors are actually pretty damn clean, however the roof is aged/faded, and the decklid has several bubbles in the clear(car has had paintwork/possibly a 3/4 repaint at some point) Passenger rear door has a 12"x4" spot where the clearcoat is gone"

Interior - all door panels and wood are in very good condition, as are the rear seats.. front driver seat has bolster tear and seat bottom has a small tear.. headliner is original and sagging. THe 3 spoke steering wheel in also in very good condition.

Suspension - several bushings are in need of refitments

Engine - good oil pressure, very quiet and feels pretty healthy for its age/mileage, but needs a valve cover gasket

Transmission - 2nd gear does not engage.. when i bought it it was intermittent.. occasionally engages after a long drive.. but essentially it is "retired".. a 400e/e420 is a 1st gear start car.

All electronics work, including the original becker radio.. AC does not work - never needed to use it, so I never inspected freon levels of checked to hear if the compressor clicks on.

These are the only pics i have(referencing the wider wheel fitment).. but I can take pics of the interior, etc, if there anyone interested.

THanks!

Very pretty! Hope you'll find a new owner for it soon, hopefully someone who wants to put some hours into rebuilding stuff themselves!

Any chance of interior pics?

SOrry for the delay.. I havent really been actively trying to sell this car.. even though i took interior pictures a few days after posting this ad.

I recently spotted a new project car i wouldnt mind picking up, so I am posting this car here and on craigslist for the weekend. $1250 final price, and contingent on a sale happening this weekend.

here are some shabby-cell-phone-cam interior shots:

there's a 500E transmission, supposedly in working order for $400 on craigslist.

How much would the car be worth with a working transmission?

Assuming I'm reading your ad correctly, what did you neglect in the last 50k miles?

Doug

^these cars arent really worth much.. id pay 2-3k grand for a nice one, but not anymore than that.. if i knew i could put out $500 to have a rebuilt transmission installed, id feel the car worthy of it... $1000, $2000, not worth the hassle.

bushings, and general refitments id say have been neglected; general "preventative maintenance".. the previous owners had it serviced regularly for several years, but after 200k, the local shop said they brought it in rarely... i think they got tired of paying "new car service premiums" and just brought it for the generic services; tires, oil changes, brakes, etc - and probably chose jiffy lube and the local tire shop rather than the pricey Indie MB shops.. i had it serviced a couple times.. resealed the power steering and had the trans serviced/flushed/new modulator, and a couple other odds and ends.

I think Doug just spotted his new project car, and something to do with the shiny new lift...

:D

FYI, there is also a 92 500E for sale in Huntington Beach(OC, CA) i spotted... blk pearl on grey, 200k miles IIRC, for $5900 or so.. you can find it on craigslist OC and also on ebay

edit.. here is the link to the 500e:
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/3553545086.html

the ebay listing was pretty descriptive.. but be wary that this was a lien sale car from a storage/tow lot.. basically - or rather presumably, an "abandoned" car...

Dave,
The thought crossed my mind but I need another project like I need a hole in the head.

Drunkentrader,
Hard to believe these cars are so reasonably priced now.
Good luck with the sale!

Doug
