Welcome to the forum.

If you need any parts for your Mercedes collection, please visit Garage van de Velde & Zoon, in Lokeren BE. Marc van de Velde runs the largest Mercedes-only wrecking yard in Europe. He has several very very large warehouses full of cars and parts. It's a candy store for Mercedes owners.....

Cheers,
Gerry

Hello. My car has been recently used as a promotional support for the new Pioneer SXT-C10PS. I will make a review of the radio here later , it fits nice in the car tho.
However , this gave me some nice shots of my 500E and i'm very happy with it so i'll share with you fellow enthusiasts.

Wow that’s neat! Your climate control looks different than mine .. wonder what head unit you had before that they used your car to market a new head unit

I had an Alpine 7833r , I fit all my cars with high end radio from the ERA. In my Peugeot 306 for example I have also an Alpine INA-N333R , in my C36 also from the same Era Alpine with a 12 cd changer.
Two of my car got selected for this publicity campaign, I chose to give the second slot to someone else. It was a nice experience.

He’s got the Euro non automatic AC, it was to my knowledge never offered in the US, you all got the more advanced automatic climate control as standard, which was sold (and priced) as the better unit here in Europe, but is highly debatable if it ever were apart for on paper.

With the pedestrian AC you get two climate zones, more choices of fan speed and manual controls.

But the biggest difference is that the automatic klima use vacuum pods that inevitably will fail. Some of them are NLA, and some require the entire dashboard to be removed to get at for replacement.

The manual variant does not use vacuum pods, it is all steel cable operated and should theoretically last forever, I’ve never seen nor heard one fail. The same system is used for the non-AC cars.

Correct. MBUSA decided no well-heeled American buyers would want "manual" anything. We could not even special order the manual climate control.

Dual zones AND four selectable fan speeds is AWESOME. The fan speed control is awful on the automatic system.

Yep... many of the vac pods are prone to failure, in particular the "dual chamber" pods, and the center vent pod. The odd-shaped footwell pod almost never fails, ditto for the small pod which activates the diverter flap.

I did not know this! Another reason the manual system is superior. Pity it's so difficult to retrofit a manual system... and it would be hard to obtain a donor car to get this from, over here on this side of the pond.

:tejas:

I did not know this either - it has made my day because both my 500e and my S124 have the manual AC system. I have been assuming I would have to sort out the vacuum pods one day - great to know that is not necessary! 🙂

Now, if I could just sort out my darn ETA/ASR issue....
