500E Hall Effect

Hello,
I've replaced the Crank Position Sensor on a 1993 500E, but it still doesn't quite run right, as in it will not do a hot start. Do any of you know if the Camshaft Position Sensor could be bad as well, creating issues in the Hall Effect for the motor?

I'm just trying to chase this thing down. Fresh fuel, new fuel pumps, it's getting fuel pressure, and the Crank sensor was already replaced. Is the Cam sensor the next step?

Cam sensor should not prevent starting.

Have you replaced the fuel pressure regulator yet?

:detective:

Are you 100 percent it is getting constant fuel pressure even when the engine is warm?
The three things that I have heard can cause symptoms like this are, the Fuel Pressure Regulator, the Crank Position Sensor, and the distributor cap insulators.

No I haven't done that yet. That's a good suggestion. Strangely the car is seemingly running better.

I'm not 100 percent on the fuel pressure. These are very good suggestions, I'll start knocking the two out, that haven't been done already.

Please pull codes, then erase, then run the car to see what comes back.

I have to admit that I don't know how to pull codes on this car. I'm sure there is a thread about it somewhere, I'll do some digging.

Thank you everyone!

This is an older thread but can the OP report back and was this issue fixed?

I am interested in Camshaft sensor diagnosis and this thread is appropriate for the issues I am having

I believe it ended up being an issue with the distributor getting moisture in it. With regular driving there was no problem, but now it’s back After the car sat all winter.

Thank you for reporting back and that's great you resolved the issue

Do you mean the problem is back now? Is it the same, where the engine will not start at all? Or does it start and run OK for a while, then start misfiring?

after sitting it starts up but misfires until it burns off the moisture. Then it’s fine. But it hasn’t been driven enough to consistently run well. It’s more of a nuisance than anything.

This is a common problem on the M119's with distributors.

How old are the caps, rotors, and insulators?
