• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

From a different thread, @gerryvz explained:

@Jlaa,

The forum's default set-up is to allow members to have three (actually four) options when it comes to attaching images:

1) attach an image and leave it in a group or image pool at the bottom of a post (along with other images if multiples are attached)

2) attach an image and insert it in-line at a specfied place, using the "Thumbnail" button at the time of attachment

3) attach an image and insert it in-line at a specified place, using the "Full Size" button at the time of attachment

4) link an image from an external source, or an internal image already posted to the forum, using the [ IMG] bbcode

In all images in scenarios one through three above, the image is automatically resized to a thumbnail at the time of import/attachment, It is stored in the forum's file system both as a thumbnail and a full-sized image, and displayed as a thumbnail in the actual post.

Thanks for explaining! What I experience (and you mention as in fact working-as-designed) is that #2 and #3 seem to do the exact same thing - i.e. insert a thumbnail sized image inline at the specified place. I must be missing something obvious though --- what should I expect as the difference between #2 and #3? Or should I not be expecting any difference? Are these cryptic forum controls a seemingly cruel but actually benevolent homage to the maddeningly obtuse control layout of the E500E HVAC system? 🤣

In scenario number four above, If an image is linked from an external source, it is automatically imported to this forum, proxied at that time, stored as both thumbnail and full-size image, and displayed as a thumbnail that can be clicked to be expanded.

GSXR's request to have the forum default to displaying thumbnails is the result of using Windows NT on his Intel Pentium and Pentium II-class microcomputers, with a 12-inch CRT display, and a USRobotics 56k V.92 dial-up modem. But I honored his request anyway, because he is a valued contributor and admin here.

Are you sure his PC is Pentium-II class? I thought I saw a turbo button on his PC. I thought that only came on 80386 machines. (see, note pic below --- I am attaching as type="full" but what shows up is a thumbnail)

If you click the button to insert a full-size image attachment, the system will force-default you down to a thumbnail-sized one anyway.

So, the only way to irritate foil GSXR and get a true full sized image that will overpower his Pentium II, is to link to an internal 500Eboard image that is located in another post.

that 80386 brings back memories. First PC was 80386 sx 16 with 40 mb HD, for which Widows took up 38mb. Had a screaming modem however with an 8.8 baud rate :D

Used my first Mac in college for a programming class. Never bought anything else as a personal computer purchase for myself. Various jobs I've been saddled with PCs over the years, but my current employer is computer-agnostic, so they bought me a brand new MacBook Pro last December.
