WANTED Instrumental Cluster 400E/E420 1992 (NO ASR) Km/h or Miles

Good day,

i am Tom from Germany.

I imported a 1992 W124 400E from Texas to Germany some time ago. Unfortunately, the speedometer is no longer working, so I either need a speedometer or the entire instrument cluster. Ideally, the speedometer would be from Canada with the km/h unit, but I would also accept one from the U.S. with miles. It is important that the vehicle does not have ASR.

The Mercedes part numbers for the speedometer are as follows:

  • Km/h: A1245421369
  • Miles: A1245421269
Unfortunately, these parts are very difficult to find in Germany, so I would greatly appreciate it if someone here could help.

Thank you very much and best regards
Tom

Tom, just FYI... the North American version of the 124.034 has 2.24 rear axle ratio. Japan models also have 2.24 ratio. If you used a speedometer from Canada or Japan, you would also need to get a converter box (like YellowBox) to adjust for the 2.65 gearing used in Europe / ROW.

Does your odometer work, but speedometer does not work? Can you have it repaired in Germany by a VDO shop?

BTW - welcome to the forum!

Welcome, Tom.

Read thru this thread that provides help with acquiring replacement gears.

Thank you very much for your help – I had already sent it for repair, but unfortunately, it was so badly damaged by a fire that it couldn’t be saved. My vehicle is from North America, so the rear axle ratio should fit.

I would really appreciate it if someone here might have something suitable.

I’m very happy to now be a member of your forum.

AH, good point, I missed that the car came from USA - so yes, it will have the 2.24 axle ratio.

A non-ASR speedometer or cluster from Canada or Japan would be perfect.
