Is there a Parts Hoarding Problem on the 500Eboard?!?

Is there a parts hoarding problem with 500Eboard members?

  • Absolutely! It's gotten out of hand with greed and denying good parts to other owners.

  • Yes. There seem to be a few members who are taking this parts hoarding thing WAY too seriously.

  • Somewhat. People really only need to be buying what they reasonably expect to use.

  • Not really. But it's not particularly a helpful attitude. Doesn't affect me too much, but still.

  • Absolutely NOT! It's a free country. People can and should get what they can, and charge accordingly

  • Are you kidding? People are literally not hoarding enough. There are too many good parts out there!

There's a lot of recent talk of $500 trunk emblems and €5,000 pairs of headlights, and members deliberately buying out the last worldwide stocks of certain items for future financial exploitation. And there seems to be a point that people are deliberately pricing these items out of the reach of others, rather than being of kind mind and spirit and offering them to others out of 500E Brotherhood and the spirit of sharing. :grouphug:

So we make a poll.

Everyone is free to create their own part stash if they so choose and some crazy pricing will just cause parts to sit on shelves until the prices are corrected down are adjusted or until scarcity starts justifying the price level down the road. Demand and supply, really. $500 NOS Typkennzeichen I can understand. These were $300 already a while ago. $5000 NOS headlamps on the other hand will take a while to get there when you can buy NOS lenses for $1000 and make your own headlights with brand new standard magneti marelli lights

Some people say I have a problem with parts hoarding but if anything I like it too much

I think the hoard for me was not being organized. At some point I will inherit the 94 E420 as well, so when I buy E500 parts, if compatible I buy a second set. Since I now have better inventory control and location, having 4 heater hoses will never happen again as an example. :)

Agreed, I have bought many parts over the years only to find that I had already purchased them in my hoard. . . not being organized costs $$$.

The poll results have convinced me that hoarding is OK, almost encouraged.

Thus my trailer is hooked on for tomorrows parts mission :choochoo:

This is the pot calling the kettle black......... 🤣

I'm back! Some w140, w220 & 215 CL goodies. Some newer diesel pumps and turbos which will be flopped so not a full hoard haul. Not a bad morning.
