How does one "reuse your airbag with this cover"? Does the center explosive device attach with bolts or rivets?

Seems very odd that Germany will not allow airbags to be shipped at all. How do they get them from the mfr to the auto factories? In USA airbags require proper labeling and a special box for shipment, but they can still be shipped in USA as @LWB250 detailed on the forum a year or two ago.

GLWS!

:lightning:

Just take your old one out and put it in. (Sold many like these before)

Here it‘s impossible for me to ship them legally as far as i know. I dont want any problems so i sell them as they are shown in the photos, without the airbag unit.

I haven’t done it myself but i know my customers have reused their airbags for this. So all i can say is it works but idk how. I‘ll ask and will write a comment here if i manage to get the info

Tbh i dont want to mess with the explosive.
Many in germany just ship airbags because they dont care - within germany chances of beeing caught are extremely low. If it goes to outside EU they open the package sometimes so i dont want the problems with customs

If you have never removed a airbag from the cover, then how are you going to ship just the cover?

the picture do not show the explosive airbag unit. Here are two pictures do give you an idea

Mine has the explosive airbag unit removed as shown in the picture. That‘s why i did not understand what your question was. I didnt mean it in a rude way. I guess you just didnt saw it.

How can one extract the remains of the pop rivets without compromising the airbag within?

Never seen one taken apart like that before is all.

I would imagine it is a safety critical issue to get right and people should be discouraged from splitting airbag assemblies in any way.

I have never studied this in detail, but had a closer look at the two airbags in post #11. On the airbag for sale in this thread it appears that the cover is fixed with a steel strap riveted to the airbag body at 4 places. While the other airbag at left doesn't have the rivets but the steel strap only.

Here is another with a better view of the riveted strap.

FWIW, this one doesn't have the rivets holding the explosive element, only the 4 bolts/nuts. Probably a later updated version?
