ADMIN EDIT: Thread title changed from "E60" to "Limited".

Does anyone know the name of the insert material used on the E60 AMG?

I do not but fyi, this is not unique to the E60, nor do all E60's have this.
This is the interior that came with any E500E or E60 that was ordered with "958" code i.e. "Limited"

It's normal black dyed leather with Grey painted accents. Was available with Grey, green and red accents in the "limited" version

I do believe that a Limited could also be ordered with "regular" seats without the painted insert?

Not that I'm aware of. The Limiteds could be ordered with standard Burled Walnut wood instead of Birds Eye Maple, or with stock wheels instead of Evo, but the main item that makes a Limited a Limited is the geometric pattern leather interior (and, the monochrome 744 or 009 paint; the 009 was only available on Limiteds).

I believe @gsxr is correct. I don't have any data to say definitively, but I do know every 958 code I looked at had this geometric pattern leather interior (independent if it was an E60 or and E500) and I did not see any 958 codes without this geometric pattern leather interior, but I can't say with 100% certainty, so I could be wrong. I can only speak for all the 958 codes I looked at.

p.s. there are some "fakes" out there. There was a red E60 being sold in Europe with this interior that I believe did not have 958 code BUT the interior that looked like this (red version) did not come from the factory that way. The dead give away were the door panels with this same tie-dye pattern except the door panels were the "wrinkled/scrunched" up leather, not the flat/smooth panels that these interiors really came with.

I have seen a few Limiteds with code 958 without this interior. The colored pattern wear out relatively fast, so the interior could have been replaced. But IIRC I saw one car back in 2008 which was untouched since new, it was a Swedish member. The enclosed image shows the equipment data/codes for these leathers.

I do believe that a “non-color” seat/interior package could be specified by buyers.
SO without the interior... what is "Limited" about the car?

Alternately, pull up your database of code 958 cars and look for ANY that don't have a Limited interior color code (286, 287, or 288).

There are a number of things that would make a "Limited" a Limited. Larger wheels, different paint schemas, interior wood, etc.

Not everyone loved (nor loves) the gaudy interior seat inserts that would come standard on a Limited.

I agree, but prior to the start of this thread, I have *never* heard anything about a Limited being orderable without the fancy interior.

The attached Limited brochure mentions the wood & wheels are optional, but says nothing about the interior as optional.

I had never heard or seen a Limited without that interior either. I am not arguing that you could or could not get a Limited without that interior, I have seen a bunch of 958's and my main point is all of the ones I saw had this multi-pattern interior, and I thought that was one of the defining features of a Limited, but again I could easily be wrong. I think all of you (@gsxr, @gerryvz, @500AMM) know more about this stuff than I do anyway.

It would be great to find an example 958 without this interior

Regarding your question for the name of this Limited leather you may ask this German car leather expert named Ulrich Baldeweg.
He sells all types of Mercedes leather and I believe he has all the Limited leather colors.
When I do my upholstery 272 Royal Blue interior on my Midnight Blue 500E I will purchase 10-12 m2 for the whole interior.
I have seen that he has Limited interior colors so he might answer your question.

Dave,

Maybe I’m reading to much into this but on the page with the steering wheel pic it does say “Opt” for the gray, red or green and they will coordinate the rest to match.

Opt from what? It doesn’t mention any other color but maybe a default option would be black?

Just reading between the lines.

It means you pick one of the 3 colors for the leather seats, and they match all the other little stuff (steering wheel, shift knob, floor mats (!), owner's manual wallet). Again, without the Picasso interior, all you have is a standard E500.
