Lower body plastic cladding color for smoke silver '92

I got this car last summer and entered an owner's entry.: OWNER - alfatga | Owners and Their Cars

After seeing pictures of other smoke silver cars and looking at mine I'm guessing the plastic cladding was painted body color at some point. Also, the bumper pads aren't black. To the best of my knowledge it's a Canadian car, and I'm the second owner. Thanks for any input.

Indeed lower cladding and bumper impact strips have been painted, so the look out not stock. I really like it a lot however. Makes the car look more monolithic. @Jlaa will disagree though :D

Got more pics of your car?

@alfagta ,
The smoke silver metallic upper colour on my Cdn R124 has colour code #702. Yours should be the same. The stock lower colour is as shown in picture and I'm still searching for the paint code for it. For some reason it is not on my data card. I do know for certain though, that the correct (but now NLA) touch-up stick from MB is part #000 986 2450 7174. Perhaps the last four digits is the code. Someone here can verify.20200101-E320-50.jpg

Looks like the lower cladding paint code is 7176 so the part number I was given for paint pen based on VIN number looks to be incorrect.

The factory color for the lowers is Mussel Gray, code 7176, for body paint colors 702 (Smoke Silver), 172 (Antracite Gray), and 651 (Pueblo Beige).

This is found in the EPC footnotes, screen shot below. This information IS NOT anywhere in the datacard.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'm disappointed that it is not stock and that I didn't know enough to realize this when I bought it, but I have to say I kind of like the "revised" look. Adding a couple more pictures.

Otherwise it's in good shape, with a few needs:
1. Radio only plays out of one side--planning to remove all parts and send to Becker.
2. Burl wood cover in front of the roll-up piece in back is cracked--anyone have a spare?
3. Exterior light warning shows up on start--have a couple replacement relays to try.
4. Mild headliner sag in rear portion.

Has black interior which isn't common in the Smoke Silver cars and about 67k miles.

Black interior is extremely rare with Smoke Silver. There were only four imported to USA and two of those appear to be wrecked/totaled.

I don't know how many were imported to Canada in that color combo, but I'm sure it's single digits. Nice find!

Nice find is right. Looks to have not suffered much UV heat sun damage being a Canadian car. I see both the radio alarm stickers on rear vent windows are there and red colour is still vivid. Where in Canada?

It's not uncommon for owners to change to monotone. I think it looks great on your car. Paired with the black interior it looks special. I repainted my green car monotone, which had already been changed by the previous owner.

edit...relatively easy and inexpensive to change back to stock.

Seat covers don't often come up, but search and see if there are old threads. If not, you can start a new one. Nobody will see the seat cover question buried in a paint color thread.
