NLA Parts Pricing- some perspective

I know people (myself included) have been complaining about pricing of NLA items. However, when I read this post about Ford F-Series taillight prices, I couldn’t help but thinking that we still are fortunate compared to all the folks who drive idiotically complex late model cars.

Or who here thinks $6k for taillights is a good deal? 🤯

Hold my beer...

One Audi digital matrix headlight:

And I know this because the the right side headlight was broken when my wife's etron GT was read ended last year. Total loss.
The real kick in the pants is that we (in the US) don't even get to enjoy the full functionality of the light units. Due to regulations, of course. They're just active like many modern vehicles have.

Features that are coded out:
  • Predictive lateral lighting of intersections, based on navigation data
  • Light carpet
  • Masking high beams for oncoming and same lane traffic

I had to replace the DS headlight on my 2016 Lexus LS460 (Adaptive lighting with cornering lighting and up/down movements for weight changes in the car) and the retail price was $2,500 and online wholesale $1,800.

Have to say I am aghast at the price of a truck taillight for an F350! Why so much?? Just a plastic light, right? No adaptive movements...

Exactly- I can understand a $2,500 headlight considering the technology that goes into that, but for a stupid taillight?? Ford must be trying to become the new Gillette or Wilkinson :)

💯

I still have a pin in my mind for when I learned that W222 headlights were $6k a pop.

Note to Self: "Nothing after facelift W221"

maw

EDIT... I used to complain about Allroad headlights at $900 a side... $6k almost makes it cheaper to lease a car
