Re: unbelieveable

So, is the general consensus to burn the bridge with parts.com at this point?
I think more information is needed as to how much TradeMotion knows about the issues, and what they intend to do about it, and when. I'll make an aggressive effort to reach them tomorrow and see what gives. Based on what I hear/infer from that conversation, I'll make a recommendation. But if you need parts NOW, I'd go with an alternative vendor.

Re: unbelieveable

Here is another alternative:
http://www.oediscountparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=215242
I've ordered from them before and got all parts just fine. They have free shipping on orders over $50 [AND under 10 lbs weight], but the prices were slightly higher than parts.com, so the total was about the same.

I see somebody edited my post and added "[AND under 10 lbs weight]". While it is in their policy, I don't think they enforce it. I ordered 500E AC condenser, dryer, and few other small parts and they did not charge shipping, handling, nor tax. I don't remember for sure, but probably it was in multiple shipment too.

Re: unbelieveable

If you place an order online for an item that has been superceded, you will receive the replacement item. Example: Striped vacuum tube 000-158-89-35 has been superceded to plain clear tube 000-158-14-35 which is functionally equivalent. Trademotion shows a price for the striped tube, but does NOT indicate a supercession. If you order 000-158-89-35, you will receive the plain clear item (000-158-14-35) instead. This will never appear on the website. You only find out after you place the order (sometimes, after you RECEIVE the order).

Dave:
If you state "No Substitution or Supersession of Part Number" they will, if available, provide the old stuff. Case in point, the trans magnet. The old rectangular item has been superseded by a round one I believe. I ordered the old one requesting "No Supersession" and I received the rectangular item.

It's just upper and lower radiator hoses for both cars and some miscellaneous parts. It can wait. Thanks for following up for us, Gerry.

Ron, this only works if you know the old part still has stock. That is a pretty rare case, but you are correct, it is possible. Again, this cannot be determined from the site online, you need to contact a live MB parts guy with access to MB's inventory system. Believe me, I've been down all these roads before, many times.

For the record, I buy 99% of my OE parts from the local dealership. Despite the higher price (a couple percent above MB wholesale, plus tax), I deal with live people, who all know me by name, and if there's ever a problem with the order, it's fixed immediately without question. No issues with returns, damaged items, yadda yadda. I call these guys all the time to inquire about supercessions, NLA items, backorder stuff, Germany parts, and so on. Sometimes the "No Substitution or Supersession" request simply does not work. They tried that on one particular part number like 3 times in a row and MB kept sending the new part, despite the part manager calling corporate/warehouse to try and get it straightened out.

It's not an exact science, that's for sure!

I just received this [automated] email from Parts.com:

Thank you for visiting Parts.com we value your business greatly and we share your passion for automotive parts and accessories. We provide a comprehensive inventory of "OEM" Original Equipment Manufacturer parts across all major makes and models. With our massive inventory we have the ability to obtain rare items for your vehicle going as far back as 1985.

Please visit us again on our Newly Designed Site for all your automotive needs and share any questions which you may have with one of our Certified Parts Managers.

The reality is that I have NOT visited Parts.com for several months now....and your Newly Designed Site sucks!

I just got the spam too. The site no longer just sucks, it's fully broken. You cannot search by part numbers. It's been like this for a couple months now, IIRC. Their sales must have dropped off a cliff.

:watchdrama:

Got same spam message back after I emailed their contact email via their web site. I had to laugh because as part of getting to be able to send them a note, you have to have an account, fine - I did, but then they want you to fill out the type of car you have - year, make, model. And they had no E300 listed for 1995! Ugh.... Sent them another note, don't expect to hear anything back.

I couldn't help but reply to their spam:

"Are you kidding me when you tout your Newly Designed Site? It was so poorly designed for Mercedes parts that several dozen or more customers on the 500eboard.com got fed up and secured alternative suppliers. I was happy with your old site, but the new site is a disaster, as I'm sure you were already informed. I would go back to it if you reinstated the old site, as I was always happy with the service. But the new site is useless!"

Thank you for your feedback. We do apologize for any issues experienced during the early days of the new version of the site. We believe that we have addressed many of the issues which you have mentioned concerning the quick search feature. Please let us know if you are unable to locate part numbers and we will be happy to address those. Thank you.

Don't let them fool you ... parts.com has NOT fixed their web site and the ability to search for part numbers is not working.

As far as I am concerned, parts.com is DEAD and SHOULD NOT BE USED as a front-end site for ordering Mercedes-Benz parts. I do not make this statement lightly, as I have been responsible for AT LEAST several hundred customers across the interwebs ordering parts via this company.

Unfortunately they are no longer reliable as an e-commerce site for MB parts, and I would recommend that folks use alternate suppliers.

I also have to put in a special good plug for the MB Classic Center. I have done a couple of parts orders via Tom for my G-wagen, and the service and speed, and accuracy, and the special work Tom has done for me to dredge up some stuff, has been awesome. The prices have also been well-discounted from MB List, too.

It is unfortunate that the situation has come to this, but Parts.com has had every chance to fix their site for MB parts over the past couple of months, and they have NOT done so. I have called and left messages, I have sent detailed email with my assessment of the situation, and I have spoken to one of their managers directly to discuss the problems. To date, no action has been taken. Thus, I would NOT recommend this site be used further for MB parts orders.

Cheers,
Gerry

I should have tried Lionel but for my lower harness I used mymercedesparts.com which is MB of South Atlanta. Not only. Was the price really good. (112) they shipped it to me in Hawaii for 12 and it came fedex in 2 days. I had selected UPS ground to save money but they used fedex. You do have to order online but I was very pleased.

Is UPS ground an option to Hawaii? I know they have an intrastate highway.

If anyone could do it, it would be the UPSS. They run the most uptight ship in the shipping business.

MBFL's site is dead now... not sure if that is temporary or permanent. :(

I'd try the Lionel Connection in FL that Clark hooked us up with, or Tom Hanson at the MB Classic Center.

Dude...I almost fell off the chair when I saw the price you mentioned for the lower harness! $112!! Did anyone else see that? I was gonna order like 10 of them and sell them for a profit

Guess it was a typo, went to mymercedesparts.com and the price was $212...oh well, guess I will be buying from Lionel down in Fla

It is safe to stay on your chair, Andy. Richard has a 400E. It uses a completely different lower harness...

Thanks for clarifying Klink....I get excited when I see a good deal, sometimes miss the fine print.

Safely back in my chair now......
