Pulled in behind an Audi R8 yesterday on a 4-lane highway with occasional stoplights. Very nice looking car, and looks mean from behind. I followed him for a short distance when we got stopped at a light behind some other cars. When the light turned green we moved out with other traffic, but when we got to about 20 mph the other lane opened up and the Audi took the opening, so I tucked in behind him. He clearly saw me and slammed it, taking his car to red-line, so I followed suit. We were both surprised to discover that the 20 year old Benz stayed right on his bumper up to 80 mph when traffic forced us to break it off. I'd say my surprise was of a much more positive nature than his! I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to overtake, but he was clearly trying, and could not pull on me. Fortunately (for one or both of us), my exit came up before we had a chance to go again. I flashed my sparkly new euros at him as I drove off, a big smile on my face. I imagine his face would have revealed a different expression. Clearly, it must have been the V8 and not the Gallardo-powered V10, but my day was made.

There's one that has been roaming the streets near the local university. I actually lined up with him at a red light on an empty road a few months ago, but alas, I was in my wagon. :(

Would have loved to blow his doors off with the nitrous! Nice cars though, very pretty. Both to look at and listen to.

Nice reading - I really like such happenings. :-)
I guess this was the first version with 4.2 V8. It has 420 HP but only 430Nm torque, and approx. the same weight as our .036. But it has 6-speed manual which contributes a lot to the 4,6 sec acceleration. I don't know how much extra the RENNtech chip gives your car, but even with the stock 480Nm versus 430Nm, it doesn't surprise me you did follow that long.

Cheers

With the R8 - which I think is a pretty handsome car - you just have to have the V10.

Aren't the V10's too flammable :spend:

Prime, I bet the R8 owner was shocked as hell to see you on his tail. I always wonder what story the owners of new car 's tell their friends, when they square up against the 036 and loose their mind when one is right there with them.

Btw, nice work. :clapper:

I've had my share of looks at the 1/4 mile drag race's (mostly from 5.0 Mustangs drivers) who line up with a smirk, which promptly turned to a frown at the finish line.

Fairly or not, I’ve always carried an Audi astigmatism. Every time while driving over in Europe, when I happened to discover the source of the heavy black acrid smoke filling the beautiful blue sky around the bend…it was an Audi whose engine compartment was fully engulfed in flames with driver & passengers standing helpless by the wayside. Forever left was an impression upon me…

Yup, seems Audi still hasn't quite ironed that trait out yet...
