Recommended Automatic Air Inflators?

I'm curious to know if someone has found a good/reliable/quality air inflator which will inflate (and deflate?) tires to the pressure you preset. I've seen this one at Lowe's which is marketed under their in store brand and I've seen other ones on Amazon I am a bit more cautious about.

Since my cars sit a while between drives (unfortunately), I'd like a way to dial in the proper tire pressure when I do get a chance to get them out for a spin.

Does someone have one they like?

In general, portable air compressors are not very accurate and are very slow. In my opinion they are best used for emergency use only, I carry one on road trips for instance. For home use you are better off with a larger compressor and a good pressure gauge.

Robert,

I have that same exact one and I use it around my garage and shop for periodic inflating and air touch-ups. It is slow when a tire needs a lot of air (say pumping it from 15-37 PSI) but it does the job quite well and from what I've seen the digital gauge is accurate. I got it on sale as a unit so that I don't have to fire up the big air compressor all the time.

If it's for say monthly checking tires and filling them type of duty, I think it's a nice little unit. Bonus is that you can take it with you on trips, as Glen says.

Cheers,
Gerry

You can buy a cheap 2 gallon portable air compressor for $40 if you're tight on space or a 20 gallon one for $150. In my mind the automatic feature is not needed if you're able to air up a tire in 30 seconds.
