    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. Rev counter dancing

I've seen this on alot of mercs 126 107 124 129 etc. But what eksactly causes this dancing. Are we talking worn out capacitors? And where? In the Rev counter it self or is it the signal. Because if it is the signal I'm afraid it would cause other isues as well with other units needing this signal..
Se the video

Assuming the indicated RPM's are accurate if you hold the engine at a steady RPM (not blipping the throttle)... the damping circuit for the tach has failed. It may be as simple as replacing the capacitors on the circuit board.

Many years ago I experienced this in my old 500E, and just replaced the entire tach assembly with another one, which solved the problem.

:shocking:

That's my thought to. Because I have 2 124 that does the same thing and there must be some sort of damping to it as it got worse over the years. But blibing the throttle really shows and provoke how much it's failed. At some point it's even bouncing up to 7000 red area and in reality I think the throttle are only bleeding the engine up to around 4500
I know the 2 capacitors inside is for the clock that also tends to wear out and then the clock stop working. I'm not sure if they do stabilize the overall power for that instrument so it would help for the Rev counter as well. But other than that I can't say I can see others in there. I'll have to try change those to see if it helps and let you all know
