Sachs 102503

Need to replace 1 of my hydro struts so I purchased a new Sachs 102503. When I received the package the yellow head cover for the fitting was chopped off leaving part in the threaded part and caused the fluid to leak out. Is it normal that due to the leak, the strut compresses very easily without tension? Secondly, do I need to prefill it with fluid before installation or just fit in the fluid hose as normal?

Thanks for the inputs.

I had to replace one a few years ago and ended up having to do the 2nd soon after, food for thought. It feels great with 2 new struts + bushings

You do not need to prefill. Just attach the hose with new washers, top up hydraulic fluid, start car and adjust the proportioning valve or add weight to the trunk to make sure the hydraulic strut is full of fluid.

What IslandMon said. You'll likely need to follow the bleeding procedure in the FSM to get air out of the system.

:pc1:

Thanks for the info IslandMon, GSXR, and Gerryvz.

Is it normal for the strut without oil in it to have no tension when depressed? Just making sure so I can send it back to the vendor for replacement if needed.
