VIN = WDBEA36E1NB806186

Moving, must sell my fixer upper 500e, runs and drives, clear coat oxidizing, and peeling, needs paint. A/C fan not working. SDR light stays on indicating there's an issue with air bag. Car has not been registered for last seven years but has been started and driven to nearby country store at least once a month. Timing chain was replaced soon after I got the car in 2005 from a dealer in Arlington, Tx.

I first had record of this car in my database from September, 2004, when the car was located in Arlington, TX and was up for sale on eBay. At that time, the car had 134,300 miles on the odometer.

An update to the record from April, 2007, shows the following personal comments. At the time, the car was located in Aubrey, TX.

UPDATE 4-7-07: Car on eBay, seller description: it has a brand new not rebuilt 4matic transmission, it was replaced 3 yrs ago, along with timing belt. Last summer thermostat and oil bridge replaced. Ive owned car approx. 4yrs. Car is running good and is very dependable but does have some minor issues. First radio antenna doesnt go up and down all the way, slightly bent maybe the reason AM radio signal doesnt come in. FM works fine as does 6 disc cd changer,(mounted in trunk). Rear drivers side door won'tt automatically lock or unlock with key as it should, you have to manually pull up knob on door to unlock. No issues of the interior i can think of ,maybe slightly more wear of drivers side than passengers seats. Both heated seats work and has a nice Alpine stereo system. Non smoking household. Tires are fairly new with good rubber still. The exterior paint has a few small nics along the bottom sides nothing drastic there except for the top of the trunk lid where paint has started to fade/oxidize from the evening sun shining under carport, a sign the car has definetly been stored in the carport too long. Also: front shock on drivers side squeaks now, wasnt squeaking when car was stored so maybe it will stop after its driven for awhile, but it is rather annoying so it probably needs replacing. Also the AC works but not on high fan, it used to work so not sure whats wrong with that.

Further comments indicate the following:
Car located now in Aubrey, TX. Car shows aftermarket wood shift knob, aftermarket stereo, weird sticker on pass. Side airbag cover, looks like non-retracting antenna. General scuffs on front spoiler etc. Mileage 152,726

Re: Fs: 1992 500E, Pearl Black/Gray, 154kmi, $5k (Aubrey, TX) - I bought it..!

Hi Gerry,
I've been a 500E wannabe for several years, and an occasional lurker here. I already own a few Benz, and more to the point a 92 300CE and a 94 E420, so I'm a huge 124 fan already. I just now picked up your post, and it's good to see in writing the things the seller told me needs fixing, he did mention all those things in your post. And Drew, you were right, it didn't last long at all. While doing a CL city search for MB's an Auto trader email came in showing this car. I had already seen the 93 in the NY City CL, and decided it had too checkered of a history in a salty road area to consider. This car is basically a FL and TX car, never driven in salt or snow, just too much sun and neglect. Anyway, I was the first caller (only hours after posted), and committed very early on in our talks to buying the car. The seller is a real gentleman and said he would hold the car for me, while we exchanged questions and pictures and negotiated a final price. I hesitated saying anything to anyone until now for fear of jinxing the deal, others had called after I did. Anyway a purchase agreement has been signed by both parties, and the final exchange of documents will happen by this Friday, and the 500E will be headed to NY next week I would guess. Anyway, wish me luck, and I'll be asking questions along the way to help me get everything sorted. I'm really looking forward to driving this car, knowing how good it feels to drive the E420 already. I had already purchased a set of 3 piece 17" OZ's 2 years ago in anticipation of getting a 500E some day, and now I'm looking for Euro headlights, if anyone has any ideas where to buy them?... :)

Cheers...Oscar

PS: Thanks for posting the 2007 eBay ad, it's now been downloaded and added to my digital folder for this car. The Autocheck I ran is also attached...

PPS: I copied the Auto trader ad before the PO took it down, and I've attached it here for your files if you want it.

Congratulations, Oscar! A purchase made even more enjoyable by a seller that had the class to stand by his word. Glad it went that way for you both.

Man at $5000 you stole that thing. Any 036 rolling chassis is worth $5k
