WANTED Sunroof Component

Hi,

I am in need of part # 124-780-0240-8F40. This piece has come loose and needs replacing for a proper working sunroof.

That part number is for the entire (large!) sliding trim panel on the sunroof, the headliner-colored piece which slides back into the roof when you open it. What specifically has come loose? Photos?

Yup, what nocfn said. There are 4 two-piece clips which attach the headliner-colored fabric frame, to the metal roof sliding panel. May just need new clips.

Do you not have the parts catalogue from MB? It may be just a few clips. Are you able to retract the roof 3 inches and look at the leading edge of the slider? if it is hanging and flopping and there are not tangs pointing upwards to the metal roof, then you need the clips. If it is floppy and not attached by those clips, my suggestion is to gently and evenly pull to slider towards the front of the opening and remove it in it's entirety. Get the potentially missing/broken clips and potentially the guide tube. While you are in there if you have no records of the servicing of the cable, perhaps get a new one and install it. Clean the tracks of debris, pour some water down the tracks (four corners have drains) and be sure the water exits quickly. Lube the contact points. All well documented here with several pictures.

nocfn is correct again, I think there is a writeup on the forum with photos & whatnot. EPC screenshot below, 4 each of the two part #'s:

Thank you so much! And, no -- lol. I have no parts catalogue. Just an amateur trying to maintain my car to the best of my ability, hence, me joining this forum for all the knowledge and experience that everyone else has such as yourself. I appreciate it! :)

with the exception of 3 or 4 of us, we are all amateurs :D Get the subscription service for the VIN from mb, you will know every part for your car specifically - do not rely on online part numbers they are not accurate/updated.

How do I ascertain the subscription service from Mercedes-Benz? Please advise.

Picture = 1000 words. 😄

If you are pointing to the rear lip... I have bad news. That's the headliner. There are no clips holding it up. The whole thing has to come out and get re-upholstered. Pretty big job...

Ohhh boy :-(

Thank you! Thereafter for ordering parts, I know the MB Classic Center sells good parts, however which other MB dealerships and their respective websites would you order parts from?
This is all exhaustively laid out and documented here on the site.

There is a listing of all of the MB dealerships that offer mail order discounts on factory parts.

We have an excellent search engine that utilizes the Elasticsearch software technology, and also a progressive search capability that makes instant search recommendations as you type in characters into the search box (like Google does).

I'll second gsxr, that edge of the headliner is glued in place and comes loose once the glue dries up. Just had the same failure on my C126; required a complete new headliner.

For discount parts, I recommend MB of Scottsdale. I've found their prices to be extremely competitive.

Ouch! Is there not any glue or some industrial chemical concoction that can be used to attach it back?

Also, does the headliner job require new interior material as well or can it be reused?
