Transcribed Maintenance Records

Fellow w124 admirers,

I recently took some time to transcribe the previous owner's and my own maintenance documents into a word file. I may actually scan in all the documents I have later on.

However, I thought I might attach it here for some of the more tech savvy guru's here to sift through (I know some of you actually enjoy reading this kind of stuff) in hopes of maybe receiving some advice based on the list of what I might look to replace in the near future or even more generally what you think about the maintenance of the car in general?

It also contains part#s for lots of common parts that are probably still useful as a reference.

On the list right now for me is the fan clutch, fan shroud (missing?), front suspension mounts, rear brakes, flex disc and a couple of other items.

I'd like to a do full cosmetic restoration of the car when funds allow as well.

The records I have go back to around 99k which was in 2005 for my car.

The gap in records from 2012-2013 under my ownership is due to leaving the car in NJ in favor of a Ducati 749 and later a 1098 for the city. You'll see the car wasn't driven much at all during that time as the bikes were much more practical for getting around.

I started driving the car again regularly around the beginning of 2014 and I got rid of the bike. It has 174k on it right now.

Thanks and look forward to hearing your thoughts/comments!

Looks like pretty normal/typical stuff, which is good. Nothing really sticks out as abnormal.

Several of the oil changes had 9 quarts of oil. I've NEVER put 9 quarts in the car. Usually it's around 7.5 IIRC, even with filter change.

Interesting that the ETA was replaced. I didn't see an upper harness replacement. Is the car still on the original harness? Or maybe I just didn't see it.

Cheers,
Gerry

They need somewhere between 8 and 9 quarts on a change. Since you're the Honcho, they are probably selling you Imperial quarts...

On all my M119's, I dump in 2 gallons of oil at an oil change. I buy oil in gallon jugs so it is quicker/easier for me that way. This almost always results in the oil level right in the middle between MIN and MAX on the dipstick, which is exactly where I want it. Anywhere between 7.5-8.5 quarts should be safely between MIN and MAX as well.

I'd expect 9 quarts would be close to the MAX mark... nothing wrong with that, just not quite optimal per MB's directions in this TSB. Just make sure it's not over the MAX mark.

Dave is correct, I use Motul which come in 5 liter jugs

8.25 liters puts it just short of max on the stick. 8.5 liters would have it AT max, which I don't like.

MB recommends anywhere between min & max, I think 75% of that is best. Just my opinion.

In any case, 2 gallons is GTG and will be in the safe range.

Motul is Good stuff...that's what we use here @ the shop. Comes in pretty 55 gallon drums:)

Yep same here :agree:. I dumped 2 gallons of Rotella T6 in my E420 last change and it put the level smack in the middle of the min and max marks on the stick and right where I want it ;).
