Trisco Palm Scanner $200

This is a good tool for pulling & interpreting the basic set of "blink" codes available from the system. It automates the process nicely. It's a great "first" diagnostic tool for owners who don't want to bother with making a home-made blink code tester.

However it is not a full substitute for the Star Diagnostic System or Handheld Tester, in terms of pulling the most detailed codes from the computers on a couple of the systems. Furthermore, the Trisco doesn't provide any sort of "live" data as to the running condition of the engine.

All in all a good tool that is being offered at a big discount from the original price of around $500. I have owned my own Trisco since 2004.

Cheers,
Gerry

One nice advantage is the Trisco will show the 3-digit digital codes from the E-GAS module, which is a step above the blinker box. Gerry is otherwise correct about the lack of live data stream, etc. It is a good basic tool for someone not ready to jump into the more-complicated SDS.

It should also work nicely with a lot of other mid to late 1990s Benzes, including cars with the 38-pin connector as well as an OBD2 port (1996 model year onward).

Cheers,
Gerry
