UPDATE: Another unhappy buyer posted 10/14, see post #9 below.

Interesting post-sale report from a buyer in Europe. The seller is 911r, who I refer to as "West Coast Dean", lol.

Car in question is a 2001 SL600 with Old Man Tan package and 16kmi,which sold for $60k plus fees and ocean freight, probably $70k+ total to Europe:

English must be the second (or third) language of the buyer, so it's a bit difficult to translate, but you get the idea:

Buyer's comments on BaT:

Just received this car yesterday after shipping it to Europe. The car has nothing to do with the presentation and had a tin of non reported issues. Underneath 90% of the spare parts were changed and non MB Original parts. I am very sad and disappointed with the seller to whom i have texted immediately. All the best anyway.

Buyer's comments on MBM (link):
I bought a R129 600 from 2001 few months ago, i just received it on Monday here in Europe. The car was sold at BAT, was fantastically presented forgetting honesty. All the front part was repainted and all the underneath was replaced with non original MB parts. That was the biggest scam i have ever experienced. The seller was a huge selling account from BAT and when i sent him the picture he refused to contest.

@jhodg5ck pointed out the LCA's are aftermarket, ditto for the tie rods. Only reason a 16kmi car would need LCA's is from accident damage, which isn't good. The other possibility is an unscrupulous shop fleecing an owner who doesn't know any better. Pity a nice car got downgraded with SuperChina parts.

Some of this is on the buyer of course, he could have paid for a proper PPI before bidding. But you kinda expect a 16kmi car to be all original. Be careful out there in auction land.

SEK 385.000 is €35.000. Sure, it lacks the pano, but great colour combo, 1997 model, 110.000 kms. Less than half of what he paid for the US car. Very easy and cheap to import into any other EU country.

Of course I’m not excusing the seller nor shaming the poor buyer, just saying that there’s no need to go across the pond for R129’s.

My Subie-Powered 914 was sold by both 911R and, then listed last year by 1600 Veloce - arguably the 2 ‘top’ sellers on BAT for many years now.

I bought it in October directly from 1600 Veloce after it had been a no sale in September. Unsure how many cars have been listed by both of these - can’t be that many but, my car was certainly lauded before my purchase (other than a confused/jilted/unstable individual who bought it and didn’t have the funds to complete purchase, so masked that as an issue instead against seller).

The engine bay on the car was Mickey Mouse full of exposed, unfinished wires… reverse lights did not work, tachometer, fuel, turbo, and I forget which other gages did not work nor, the light for the gages, etc. Radio did not work, trunk release was by chicken wire under/behind rear bumper, a window seal on driver’s door was completely detached on one end and essentially ruined (plus the other side’s seal had been installed upside down instead), and on and on.

Wonderful, picturesque presentation with supposedly 80 hour or 40 or? detail job? Check! But the car itself, did not have fully functioning capacity… and I’m sure I’m forgetting a ton of stuff. Yes - the impression one gets when a car is listed/highlighted by one of these vendors does have its appeal and I’m sure a factor in that buyer’s decision to get that r129.

This is the link to the car then using the same photographer style as the SL above:

And, this is the link to the ongoing build for it since last year as well, where for once in my life, I’m actually downsizing the wheels on one of my cars, among a few dozen other changes.

I bought the car bc it was exactly what I wanted - widebody, with modern drivetrain that would allow for new/freezing a/c to be installed. Hoping to enjoy it soon although also bought another ‘toy’ in June. A black GTV-6 which is also undergoing a serious transformation… one of these days, all my cars will be drivable and clean and mechanically/cosmetically sorted - at least that’s my fantasy and keep telling myself that!

Here's another unhappy buyer, of a 2014 GL550 from a dealer in Florida. It arrived with non-working air suspension and seat massage. Buyer asked BaT to suspend the seller's account, lol. Yeah, that won't happen. Selling dealer (aegmotorsports) has had 910 listings since 2018 and is a cash cow for BaHaT. Comments pasted below, since there's a chance they could be deleted by the BaHaT overlords.

BAT community. I just closed this auction Sept 25 and finally received the vehicle- the air suspension system is not working/driveable and the massage function also is not working. I tried to work it out with the owner of AEG Motorsports owner- Abdellah El Gouchi and the Sales Manager- Aleksei Ratnikov. They will not take responsiblity for the vehicle that was delivered last saturday Oct 11. So I reached out to BAT and sent this email to the owner/founder on 10/13.

Randy Nonnenberg (BAT Founder/Owner,
Thank you for the development and creation of the Bring a Trailer Market place. You have worked hard to create a community of car enthusiasts where buyers and seller of vehicles, can learn together, appreciate fine automobiles and conduct business. This community is based on trust. I am sorry to have to contact you directly on this matter.
Unfortunately I recently closed an auction with AEG Motorsports, and it was an exceptionally poor experience.
I purchased a Mercedes-Benz GL550 on Sept 25. At the close of the auction Aleksei Ratnikov immediately contacted me with a bill of sale and wiring instructions. He also explained the process of paperwork and payment. He also followed up with an email and additional instructions. We were off to an expedient and professional start. I completed all paperwork, got insurance and wired the money on Sept 26th and was told by my bank that the wire transfer went through that same day. AEG also agreed to add transport to the final invoice for $1000 which I paid.
September 27 I was sent documents to electronically sign (bill of sale, title, etc), I returned this within the hour. I was told the vehicle would ship that week and details would be sent on the carrier. I then received no further communication. I then called Aleksei and was told the manager was arranging shipment and unfortunately the carrier had not showed up. This was disappointing as this could have been proactively communicated. I was told, after I followed up that it would ship late in the week. On Friday October 3 I again followed up with Aleksei, I was told unfortunately that the carrier was not going to arrive until October 6th and I would be contacted at the time of pickup. Again I was the one who had to call, no proactive communication. On the afternoon of Oct 6th I again called Aleksei and he asked which vehicle, which was frustrating given the almost daily communication at this point, I was then put on hold as he discussed shipment with the manager. He got back on the phone and assured me it would ship today 10/7 and I would be contacted. Finally at 4PM on October 7th the shipping arrangement was made, on October 8th I received confirmation that the vehicle would be picked up. Finally the vehicle would be shipping to Fairlawn, OH.
On October 11th I received the vehicle and immediately took it for a test drive, the drive was bouncy and roll was coming from the rear. An error showed on the dashboard showing the SUV and arrow, and the word malfunction. I stopped the vehicle and attempted to raise the vehicle with the air suspension button on the center console. Again, Malfunction message and another message stating the compressor had stopped and was cooling. In short, the air suspension of the vehicle was not working, and the vehicle was not safe to drive. I also checked a number of other systems on the vehicle and found that the massage function of the seat kept erroring out and would not work.
I sent an email on October 11 to AEG Motorosports- Aleksei. Explaining that these systems would not work along with video of the errors- and how would he like to resolve? There was no response. On Monday October today October 13th I again followed up requesting a response from the owner Abdellah El Gouchi. He did not contact me, Aleksei did, his response below… they are accepting no responsibility for the damaged suspension or massage function failure, instead they are stating that the transport company caused the suspension to be damaged and the massage function. This is not possible as the company they hired, picked up the vehicle with a car transport, they did not drive it.
AEG Motorsports did not disclose that the vehicle was not working properly. When I advised them off the issue, they did not take responsibility. This type of action greatly erodes the trusting community you have worked so hard to build. I am asking you and the resources at BAT to assist with resolving this issue. I can forward you emails, video and also I am having the vehicle fully inspected by a Mercedes certified service station today. I will be happy to provide this report. I also would also recommend that AEG Motorsports account is suspended, as they are violating the code of conduct established by BAT.
Thank you for your assistance in resolving this unfortunate matter. Attached are the videos of the errors.

Aleksi,
I just got the vehicle and took it for a test drive.
1). The massage functionality and lumbar support is not working. If you select 4 for example it errors out and goes to zero same if you try to change the lumbar
2). The car bounces and rolls and seems to start in the rear right.
3) when driving malfunction shows on dash board. With an suv and an up arrow.
4) when you hit the up arrow suv to raise vehicle. You get an error that the compressor is cooling.
I have this same vehicle already. However it’s a gl350. I know how the massage and air support suspension works.
Neither are working on this vehicle and this was not disclosed. I am going to take it to get assessed Monday but how would you like to resolve this issue?
Here are videos.
Thank you,
Jesse Dolan

Aleksi,
I need Abdellah El Gouchi, the owner of AEG Motor sports to contact me today. I know I bought the vehicle as is.. however the condition of the vehicle WAS NOT disclosed.
The suspension is not working properly as I noted in the email sent Saturday with video evidence. I would like to discuss how best to resolve this issue with Abdellah today.
If I am not contacted by 1PM I will go forward with resolving this issue on my own and ensuring that BAT, social media, google, BBB are advised of how AEG Motors conducts business.
I understand accidents can occur, so perhaps this was an oversight on your end. I am giving you an opportunity to make it right.
Thank you,
Jesse Dolan

Good Morning,
Before the vehicle was picked up it was looked over and there were no error messages on the dashboard or in the vehicle’s computer. We always take videos prior to the vehicles pickup minutes before we release them to the transport companies. After we release them, we do not know what transport company. It could be the case where they have not set the vehicle in the right position and started driving while compressor was trying to set the vehicle level and could have overloaded it. We suggest you reaching out to the transport company and submitting a ticket with them.
When the vehicle was here, we did not see any issues with the lumbar support. The videos that you have attached you can see on the right side of the screen, and it doesn’t look like that there is anything wrong. And once again we do not know how exactly the vehicle was taken care of in the time getting to you.
Please let me know if you have any questiongs,
Regards,
