Damage doesn't look to bad. Looks like mostly sheet metal. A new hood and headlights would take care of most of it. The lower fascia still looks in tact in the insurance photo. Passenger fender looks good how about the drivers side fender?

I'm surprised that they totaled it.

You must like bent Benzes. What's the Benz behind the E500?

Good Luck with it.

NICE! Where did you score the AMG Gen2 bumper? Remember you'll need C36 fog lights, with custom brackets, to work correctly with the E500 headlights.

:wahoo:

The insurance shop cut the radiator support out since it was bent that is the only thing that needs to be welded with both sides of the headlight brackets I've already ordered them from MB of Sacramento, headlights I bought brand new from the dealer as well I just need the radiators and small parts around the front end.

The car in the back is another 1994 E500 with 88k Silver that was wrecked in 2010 I will be getting to that hopefully this year or when I finish building the smoke silver one.

Congratulations and good luck with the car, but wouldn’t it been nice to take the engine out and refresh all gaskets/seals since it’s easier before fitting the front parts?

The engine will be coming out and will be completely rebuilt. Please follow up on this thread and I will keep you guys updated 👍

Fenders are not damaged however there are small dents in both front and rear quarter panels but again this car will be stripped and get straightened out before it gets the new layers of the original paint back on there.

When I ordered my bumper the dealer told me they had 1 more left in a warehouse in New Jersey.
Do you know if only a front bumper or the whole bodykit? The whole kit would be VERY interesting!

Thanks.

Great, I look foreward to it!

...headlights I bought brand new from the dealer as well ...
Did you buy the headlights year ago too? The E500 lights have been NLA for a while now, and the standard E320/E420 lights aren't the same.

Wow, you have another one too? Cool! What color interior on the Brilliant Silver E500?

Is there something wrong with the engine? If not... all you really need is a re-seal, replacing fossilized rubber hoses, and replacing the plastic chain rails. It's rare to ever have to pull the heads off an M119. And expensive if you do open it.

Yes I bought them about 1-2 years ago.

Black interior.

Nothing wrong with the engine. By rebuilding meant that I will completely reseal it change all the components around the engine. It has 189k I might do the headgaskets on there just to be safe.

Understood - that makes sense, and I'd highly recommend it a complete re-seal. Even better if you pull the engine out and can re-seal the transmission too, and do front+rear crank seals, plus all the stuff in the engine compartment that's miserable to access with the engine in place.

I'd still NOT do the head gaskets unless there are signs of leaking. Seriously, look up all the part numbers needed to R&R the heads, and price everything out. Even using aftermarket parts as much as possible, the cost gets stupid pretty fast. Because if you're doing the heads, you also need to rebuild the intake manifold, valve stem seals, check valve guides/sets, etc etc. If the engine runs you may want to do a hot compression test for grins.

I understand. Yes both engine and transmission will be inspected and looked over completely all seals both engine and transmission will be replaced. 90% chance I will replace headgaskets hence the mileage and of course the engine will get a compression test.

Two E500s :thumbsup2: Very nice. Please provide more pics when you can. I for one look forward to your progress.

lol

Is this the E500 that was auctioned in CA a while ago? May I ask how much it was auctioned/sold for as a friend of mine is asking.

Does anyone know who or what shop would be able to restore my renntech airbox?

Mine looks just like yours. It doesn't make any power, so restoring it would be purely cosmetics. I think Ntrepid found a place that deals with carbon fiber, that might be able to attempt re-clearcoating?

I understand it dosent make more hp with the box but it would just be a neat little upgrade to have.
If anyone has a place it would be really helpful I want to get it done.

I'd probably just start reaching out to carbon fiber guys in your area. I don't think I have ever seen one of these boxes that ISN'T destroyed cosmetically. It's like they found a binder that was reactive to heat or something.

Dave - have yours survived in any better condition, or have you seen any that have?

Nope, mine look like that. The only ones I've seen in better shape have low miles/hours.

It's also possible RT changed their materials at some point, and the early ones were prone to turning color and having the clearcoat fall apart... but I don't know.

Shipped the Renntech airbox to Exotic Car Gear for restoration I will keep you guys updated how it turns out.
Awesome! Mine looks just like yours... I'm really curious what they can do with it.

You should post contact details and repair cost, if you don’t mind, for the benefit of the community. Came out great! Good luck with the rest of the car.
Contact David call or email him.
Total cost was $364.99 with shipping.

Ah, got it. The original had a metal plate under the clearcoat, I believe.

Guess I need to contact him, thanks for the info!
Yes you are correct it did have the metal plate but I chose to go with the more modern Renntech badge.

Your welcome.

I noticed you are in Antelope. I am in the same area.

I dont own a 500e but have a c43 and a c55.

I would love to meet u and talk cars. Also Im looking into going the CF route for my airbox. Would love to see yours and get more detail on exactly what was done to recondition it.
