W126 Reiserechner display going crazy

Driff

Hi

I am a new owner of the C126. What a car! Even almoust 30 years later...

Am9ng the other problems, the trip computer is a little bit mad. The digital display is showing almoust everything it has been programmed - the numbres and letters and dots are dispayed and changed continiously like it is on heavy drugs. Sometimes however it is ok...and I could not understand in what conditions.

I suspect that it has somekind of grounding problems but I do not know where to start - has there been someone with similar problem ?

He's talking about the trip computer that takes the place of one of the gauges in the instrument cluster.

Rare option.

Is this the LED temp display, I only speak English.

No, it is the Reiserechner display - all the data is recirculating there as it would like to show everything it has in the in the shortest time - how to say - the displey is living its own life...not showing what it should be.

Car has been all its life in Spain - so it is EU spec, no rust, but 20 years too much at the sun...but it has full option - 220kW, tripcomputer, orthophedic seats, etc - so lot of things, that can go wrong :-)

If this is a pre 87 aka Gen1 w126, remove earth cable from battery. Remove cluster and attach a wire on one of the screws of the metal case on the left side of you are looking at the case. Attach the long wire to a earth point for the interior just behind the cluster to the frame. This may help your circumstance.

Some picture of your car would be appreciated!
