Shipping at mboemparts.com (MB Naperville) for hazardous materials

Admin edit: Thread title updated for clarification.

Has anyone noticed how ridiculously expensive shipping is here? I ordered 2 tubes of hub grease for less than 12 dollars and my shipping was $54.00. Did I miss something?

Shipping calculator has a mind of its own. I know that mboemparts.com charges actual cost of shipping and not what the calculator at check out says. Don't know about mboemparts... It's worth checking out eBay before buying some parts, such as grese, from a dealer

Yes, its mboemparts.com. I've used them for a while but not in the past 6 months. The shipping is exhorbitant

Ummmmm…..isn’t MBOEMPARTS and MB Naperville the SAME EXACT THING? Please correct me if I am wrong about this. But I believe they are one and the same. Mboemparts.com is the REVPARTS online catalog URL that MB Naperville uses.

Do note that this dealership used to offer free shipping to forum members, up to $50? I believe a year ago with the pandemic they reduced this to a 50% shipping discount. No bueno

As for the high shipping costs, this is an inherent problem that is caused by the RevolutionParts platform that all these online dealership parts sites use, utilizing UPS shipping rates. MBUSA’s exclusive shipping partner is FedEx, and the actual shipping costs are usually reduced to the FedEx cost when the order is fulfilled.

C’mon guys …. This situation has been discussed ad nauseum here on the forum, in several threads. I’ve spoken about it at length with the head of the parts department at MB Annapolis (getmercedesparts.com) and he has clearly explained the situation to me, which applies to all of the online MB parts dealerships that use REVPARTS. I’ve reported here to the forum exactly what he has told me.

It’s all here in black and white. Just use the search engine (which has had the Google style “type ahead” feature re-enabled in the past week or so.)

Also, since I’m repeating myself ad nauseum with stuff I’ve already said in the past … one more thing … DO NOT EVER USE REV PARTS ONLINE PARTS DIAGRAMS AND CATALOGS AS A REFERENCE FOR YOUR CAR. THEY ARE NOT ACCURATE. EPC OR ISPPI ONLY FOR PARTS DIAGRAMS AND NUMBERS. ONLY USE REV PARTS SITES AS ONLINE ORDERING FRONT ENDS FOR BUYING PARTS.

Am I missing anything else that I’ve repeated repeatedly multiple times over and over broken record-ish in the past?

Oh yeah … Porsche made the complete production of all E500Es, not just the pre-facelift models like some magazines have reported.

You are correct. They are one and the same. I’ve ordered from them several times but have never seen the shipping so high. They charged me $27 (using the promo) to ship an $11 item. It’s never been this ridiculous. I’m really upset with myself, and yes again you’ve repeated yourself several times but I don’t remember reading about exhorbitant shipping quotes actually being charged.

The RevParts shipping calculator totally depends on the size and weight of the item that is pre-input into their system, and it is "off" or incorrect on some items. Not to mention that UPS and FedEx have implemented some serious price hikes in recent weeks and months over their former prices.

I, too, have seen some HUGE shipping costs quoted for very small parts (i.e. gaskets and stuff) -- like a $60 shipping cost for tiny items that would fit into less than a shoebox -- but I have NEVER been charged this.

Any shipping price quoted by a RevParts site is going to be TOTALLY different than what you are actually charged - both in the amount charged, and in the shipper used. This has very definitely been repeated several times on the forum.

I don't recall that at least MB Naperville (or MB Annapolis, for those not in Maryland using it) have ever charged people the exact amount that the RevParts quoted them for a UPS shipment. I know very much for a fact that MB Annapolis does not do this, from multiple direct conversations with the parts manager there. I also know for a fact that MB Naperville does not do this, from multiple direct conversations with the parts manager there.

If I am understanding correctly, that you were literally charged the same shipping price that you were quoted on a RevParts price, using their UPS search engine price quote, yet the order was delivered to you via FedEx (a different carrier), I would 1) get on the horn to the dealership and complain very very loudly; and 2) never use them again, in favor of a RevParts vendor that charges actual shipping based on their MBUSA discount with FedEx; and 3) do what I did, and pursue a relationship with a RevParts dealer near you and work out a "no shipping price" deal for all orders where you come in and pick it up.

I will do that today. I just placed the order last night.

You can't beat USPS for shipping. I sent a document to the UK in a flat rate envelope in mid Feb which cost me $30. 5-8 days delivery. Aside from the fact that it's still not arrived, that's pretty impressive!

There are 20-30 different dealerships nationwide which sell via the RevolutionParts platform. Naperville (MBOEMParts) is just one of them. Each has their own shipping matrix, and ship costs will vary depending how far you live from their location. As @kiev said, the ship calculator can spit out some pretty crazy numbers at times... usually it's for either large/heavy items, or large quantities of small/light items.

In this particular case, the grease is classified as "hazardous material" which is why the ship cost is nuts. Most other dealers are showing "unable to ship".

Anyway. I am seeing $52 ship cost for 2 tubes of wheel bearing grease p/n 002-989-00-51-10 from Napsterville.

Husker (MBDirectParts) is showing $71 shipping for the same 2 tubes.

Bottom line: buy elsewhere, FCP has it for $7.

Not to change the subject, but I don't see free shipping from autohausaz... I could swear it use to be free over certain amount or am I :crack: ???

Correct. I just purchased rotors from them and there was no option for ‘free’ shipping.
AutohauZ used to have free shipping I believe for orders of more than $50? Then it was like $75 I think. Then with the pandemic, they eliminated free shipping entirely from what I have seen. That said, I have continued to use them for some things. They are a good company.

I few weeks ago, I got a phone call from the owner of the company on something (unrelated to shipping or any parts order I made), and he was a really great guy. We actually had two or three phone conversations about the topic. Reinforced my good feelings about the company. They are good folks, and they care about their customers.

I think FCP Euro still has free Economy shipping for orders over $49. To my house in Maryland, I have found this shipping to be extremely fast, if they have the part in stock ... typically 1-3 days. Not sure about RM European, but the @gsxr could tell you for sure. I think they have free shipping for orders above $99.

It's a good idea to comparison-shop between all three, and never hurts also to see if the part is available via Amazon (particularly if you have Amazon Prime).

I got tired of looking at the clear front corner lights on my 036 so I ordered new OEM from Autohaus.

They charged $9.99 shipping via Fedex.

Nope, no free shipping indeed...

Thanks for confirming, I had to pull few last year receipts to confirm, was free... was I like AutohauZ, they do offer a lot of products and very good product details in the description (usually). I like that they ship from various warehouses too, one can actually call them and ask where is it coming from, and have an idea when to expect the part.

I continue to use them and FCP too... good point to Amazon, sometimes I forget, but with prime, definitely some good prices can be had from them...

Very reasonable for sure!

RME, FCP, and AHAZ are my three go-to aftermarket suppliers. FCP charges sales tax, RME and AHAZ may not.

I find AHAZ often does not have the brand of part I am looking for, so most of my orders are RME and FCP. Sometimes RME will price-match AHAZ on the identical item, worth checking into on a higher-dollar purchase.

Amazon is handy for Bosch parts, if sold by / ships from Amazon. Watch out for 3rd-party sellers hawking counterfeits.

:duck:

For shipping many items these days, you can’t beat it when it’s free and fast.
Just received rear Zimmerhombre discs for my CE for $55/pr/shipped in 2 days from FCP.
What is sales tax?
