Well,

I can't keep this under my hat any longer. After buying the 1990 SEC last year, I developed an SEC bug.

Went to Jono's shop for a possible evaporator replacement on the 93' 500E, and this followed me home. Still looks the same even though the pictures were taken some time ago.

Just waiting on the title from Jono to register, insure, and drive it as long as there are no bugs, rain, traffic, dust, smog, snow,. . . well you get the point.

Super excited, and, yes, I still have a wife and family, as they have not yet committed me.

What a lovely car. I am starting to get the idea that being a true member of this board requires ownership of not just a w124 e500e, but also a w126 coupe!

I want one. That and a 107 would round out my collection.

Trae has his other SEC for sale Ken. New paint job, rebuilt engine and all the fixins (except it isn't as fast as the euro spec he bought) Check him out.

Louis got me into the C126.

Gerry's "how to"s and Jono's knowledge helped me lean into this decision.

I hope to be a good steward of this gem as it was, and possibly still could be, a concourse show winner.

Could not have gone to a more Fitting and Proper home Sir. Glad she's with you...:)

Look forward to your next trip down!!!!

...new digs to explore..:)

Jono

Congrats on the new purchase, Trae! Looks like some useful and tastefully done mods, too !!

Indeed, C126 ownership has been catching on among folks here on this board. Have you tried a G-Wagen yet? :jono:

Ken -- I had a ~50K 1987 560SL for 7 years. It was fine as an occasional / Sunday car, but I never found that a convertible (particularly with a manual top) is all that usable with regularity either in the gray/rainy Northwest or hot/humid Texas, so I sold it a few years back. Not the most comfortable car to get into and out of either, and the driving position leaves (personally for me) a bit to be desired. Glad I owned it, but wasn't a long-term keeper for me.

Looking back, I'd probably have done better with an R129 500SL, preferably of 1997-1998 vintage or a Silver Arrow....

Cheers,
Gerry

A great deal of the comfort level with the M117 and M119 is to attributed to you, Gerry. You have produced many great "how to" videos that are easily followed, and the knowledge base continues to expand with the masters, that make their living doing this, taking the time to chime in with their experience and advise.

It is for those reasons that I went backward in technology rather than forging ahead into the W211 AMGs for now.

A big "thank you" to everyone that has posted to help maintain these great cars.

Does this board rock, or what?

Showed the Jonomobile at the 2021 Legends in Hilton Head over the weekend. Car ran great with new Euro cams Jono installed complementing the custom headers and Remus exhaust

Weather was 49 degrees with gale warnings for wind gusts up to 35mph.

There were only three SECs and NO 500Es represented at the show.

Finally stopped raining around 11:00AM and we left around 2pm.

Really appreciate the work Jono did to make this car what it is today!

I am certain that Trae has the that seat of the pants acceleration he was hoping for. Congrats on the showing, I had some friends from the Houston chapter there as well.

Gusts up to 35mph? Out west, we call that "Tuesday". :ROFLMAO:

We get nervous when the winds area continuous ~35mph with gusts over 50mph, as that will take down trees and make a real mess.

Those 036 owners, ugh, such fair-weather drivers...

:jono:

The infamous "Jack's car". He had headers and head work and exhaust but never the cams. Now the car has the proper cams and should be a good performer. I always lusted after that car - 199 over Mushroom.

Remus muffler and mandrel bends... :)

Stainless so it doesn't have quite the Low note it otherwise would with mild steel.... But still sounds Grrrrrrreaat😁
Can't have everything I suppose... so no X, H or resonators (extra weight)? Would love to hear it at WOT.

maw

@Trae, The car looks really great. Pretty quiet at idle though. Does it still have a resonator? Or is it straight Cat Back to the Remus?

Sure like to hear it with the peddle mashed to the floor going away.

Love it!

Period-correct mods make the SEC much more desirable. My preference would be polished deep dish wheels.
Mercedes were really late in making a sportier version of their V8s, and even when they did it was still conservative.

My C126 has AMG cloned headers, 2.5" SS with no cat. 2 into a magnaflow 2 out at the seat pan and the same magnaflow at the tail, no X pipe. The note is low, and tolerable to me, wife demanded the can under the seats as the kickdown was more like open headers :D mandrel bends as well with v clamps at the down pipes for an easy drop.

Many thanks for getting me into the C126! The ride in your car was eye opening.

I hear what seems to be a lot more melodic bang at low revs... is that the cams, duration and lift?

maw

Sorry I missed you at Hilton Head Trae... I saw your car next to Blakely's WWWWide Body and have to say my top 3 favorites (in no particular order)... EVO, yours and the wide body!
I thought about bringing my 500E but as this was my first trip to HH I wanted to be a spectator... also had my eye on the weather and as has been pointed out previously, E500E owners are fair-weather types :agree:
Spectator-wise... Saturday was a tropical storm but at least the VIP hospitality was giving free booze to whoever braved the storm!!!

There are specs in the manual and we use trim plugs on the R16 port/Resistor to select the correct map:)

What cha putting a cam in?

Ping me if you'd like to go over it
