These are the rubber pieces that are on either side of the leading edge of the hood and wrap around the sides of the hood. NLA from MB and very much in demand.

You can see the suppleness of the rubber in many photos below where I am bending the edge pieces and each overall individual piece itself.

ZERO cracks or tears -- all rubber is 100% near new condition.

Look at how flexible this rubber is....

TWO flaws -- one on each piece.

One piece is missing ONE of the pair of tangs one ONE of its press-in attachment points, as shown below.

The other piece is also missing ONE of the pair of tangs on ONE of its press-in attachment points, as shown below.

Otherwise, with a little cleaning, these babies are near-concours condition, and fully unobtanium.

Don't wait around, jump on this as pretty much every owner needs them !!

Condition?
You will see very soon. Both have zero tears in the rubber, and are 100% flexible and pliable. One side has 1/2 of one of the attachment tangs missing; the other side also has one-half of one attachment tang missing. This will not affect the ability to install either rubber piece. I would not hesitate to put them on my car. Both are complete with the pieces that go along the side of the hood completely intact and supple rubber.

They are cleaning right now and I will take photos of them once they are prepped.

I don't know how much I will charge for them.

Original post updated with extensive photos.

Here are photos of what a brand new unit looks like.

Gerry, what part numbers are on each? I can't quite read the number in the photos.

:oldster:

I do not know what these should sell for. Maybe ill just keep them as deep stock parts spares.

Cool! I believe these are correct for the 034/036. The non-V8 cars used slightly different rubbers.

:rugby:
I know they are correct. They came off VIN WDBEA34E6NB771440 and both are original parts. I believe one of the parts was shared with other non-V8 cars, no?

There is a HOW-TO on installation located here:

Nope, the non-V8 cars have these pieces shaped differently. They will interchange because the mounting points are the same, but V8 and non-V8 are not identical. Put them side by side and you can see the difference.

As I recalled it, one side was proprietary, and the other side was common with other non-V8 cars?

It does appear that the 04 97 part number was later superseded to a different number. I thought that was the part that was in common with the non-V8 W124 models.

Here is the ISPPI entry for a pedestrian E320 (124.032).

As you can see, one of the parts is in common with the E500E (per my image above) -- the 04 97 part number was superseded to the 124 889 21 98 part number, which was originally intended for the non-V-8 models. I remember this because I bought TWO sets of them when I lived in Texas -- one for my E500, and the other for my former white E320 wagon.

Here is the 124.032 entry in the ISPPI (as an example of a non-V-8 car), illustrating the part in common:

Sooo... I've done research on this in the past. The early build 034/036 had #03 / #04 rubbers, roughly through pre-facelift production. This would align with the ones you have for sale from a 1992 400E. The current EPC does not show the original part number. I don't have easy access to the old BlueScreen DOS EPC to pull a screenshot showing #03/#04 for 034/036.

Somewhere near the change to facelift production (summer 1993), the passenger side rubber superceded from #04 --> #21 which is what shows in the current EPC / ISPPI. However, the #21 part is slightly different... it has a plastic outside "wing" that often breaks off. I don't know why MB did this, as it was pretty stupid.

Note that only the M104 cars used #21, older 124's (except M104) used #01/#02 which superceded to #19/#20.

Again, the shape (specifically, the location of the long/horizontal piece that contacts the radiator support above the headlight) is not the same on the 6-cyl cars for both sides. Yes, the M104 cars share the same plastic-winged passenger side rubber. But the M104 driver side is not the same, so you won't get a pair of "correct" donors from an M104 car, or any non-V8. Donor needs to be 034/036, preferably pre-facelift, because almost every facelift car I've found has the plastic wing broken off the #21 rubber.

I believe the difference is related to the air intake bucket which surrounds the headlights. The M104 piece that matches 034/036 is above the one headlight on M104 which has a similar air intake as M119. Only the V8 cars have air intake on both sides. Non-M104/M119 do not have any air intake bucket surrounding the headlights.

All I am stating is that one of the pieces for the V-8 cars is shared with the non-V-8 cars, and has been for quite some time. Both my old EPC and the current ISPPI show this to be the case.

My point was that if you want V8-correct items, you can't just go snag them from any 124 in the junkyard.

:hornets:

:hornets:
That is correct. Per the EPC/ISPPI, you can just go snag one of them off of common 124s. :stickpoke:

The ones I am selling, are both period- and factually-correct for any V-8 model, as originally intended from the factory.

«Price TBD». Isn’t it forum policy that parts for sale should have picture AND a price?
Well, I have a picture (actually something like 22 or 23 of them ... far more than most people bother to post when they have items for sale here).

As for a price, how about $150 shipped for the pair?

Now that you have sold yours as well as edumacated me on the differences I'll note that I have a set of the correct V8 model/part no.s for sale.

I'll post a for sale thread for my own, which have 3 of the installation tabs missing on each piece.

Nope, as I said above, they have to come from an 034/036 donor to get a PAIR of correct ones. And as I also said above, facelift cars will have a junk #21 on the passenger side. M104 donors are useless. So the donor needs to be a pre-facelift 034/036.

They sure are. I mean, were.

:watchdrama:

M104 donors in good condition are better than no donors.

It’s all moot anyway. None of them are available.
