Re: All Time High?

They must not be serious about selling it. This translates to ~$239K USD an absurd amount for a non-original (modified) E60 that has had its motor rebuilt. It is not even worth $100K USD less than the asking price.

This is a very cool car with some neat mods, and I wouldn't mind having it in my garage. But I agree the price is absurd, in the current market. Seems like someone added up all the receipts and not only wants their money back, they expect to make a tidy profit as well.

The rear-glass spoiler is unusual. It's also a shame they went to the trouble of modifying the AMG Gen2 bumpers, but did not modify the matching side skirts. The duck tail was not period-correct on facelift models so the fact that it's MIA is technically accurate. Need a lot more photos of the interior and undercarriage too.

:watchdrama:

Rims and brakes are Bernard special. And that’s the only mod I like on this 0.21M car, but each to their own as we say.

Hello there Mr.Bing - long time no see. :-)
I was just about to say this could be Bernards car due to the mods you refer to. I was in contact with him several years ago regarding big brake upgrade, wheels etc..

The sheet metal seems ill fitted to me. The gaps around the hood are terrible and the blinkers look like they don't fit. The front bumper doesn't seem fit well either. No way is this car worth $239k.

I’m w/Maui on this car. If it’s supposedly worth $239K, where does this place 600Eric’s car? His 500E has just about as much work done to it minus the E60 bits and the Movit brake package. Cosmetically, 600Eric’s car looks as good or better than this one. Eric also set the speedometer back to 0 after his restoration and all of his sheet metal has the correct gaps.

It would love to see 600Eric’s setting next to this car being judged by an impartial third party.

That said I like the Movit brake package and the wheels but would prefer 18” for a better ride. I absolutely hate the piece of CF crap on the rear window.

Enough Already

This means it was likely converted by AMG post-delivery, correct?

:detective:

Rouven036 would know better than me what the special production note is.

Having said that some cars (mine was an example) with this were sent new to AMG i.e. owner did not take delivery. In my case he ordered a new '94 E500 (not 500E) in 2nd half of '93 and ordered E60 on the sales order and MB sent it to AMG to build an E60.
One simple way to see if this is the case i.e. it was built new by AMG, is to request written/signed documentation for Mercedes validating this was in fact the case i.e. it was built/converted new, not aftermarket by owner sending it to AMG. If you can't get that written/signed doc from MB it was likely aftermarket.

In this scenario you describe... was code 957 added to the datacard?

:apl:

what is special about "At the front, a new original AMG tie rod was retrofitted ". Are the tie-rods different or is the lower brace different on an AMG?

I think something was lost in translation from German. Probably means front sway bar.

:tumble:

It was not.
While I was looking for E60's I had primarily focused on 957 codes, then I realized a number things:

- many of the Japan ones you could not get the car history and I was also suspect of the mileage some were purporting, especially without documentation
- that there were in fact some E60's that were built and had a special production note at MB and they were not 957 code
- an owner might want different/other things from AMG that were not part of the 957 code package

I learned some of the above and then got some help from Rouven while doing homework.

In the end, I started to realize that whether it was a 957 code, or it was built/converted new by MB/AMG via special production order or if it was true aftermarket (i.e. owner took delivery and sent it to AMG), if the car was documented and you could get the history and if it was full AMG conversion (engine, suspension, transmission etc,) and it was done by AMG Germany - then you have basically the same car, same powertrain and same AMG Engineering.

For me, I wanted one that was built/converted as a new E60 and MB would give signed documentation stating so and I wanted to be able to understand the history (miles, maintenance) and get documentation from MB on the car.

That is correct but can also indicate other changes such as special exterior or interior colors which can be verified anyway with the data card.

Great looking car! :thumbsup2:

Not sure about the asking price. All mods can be reversed to stock, or find another E60 AMG - it's plenty out there...

The AMG stamps in the seats look nice... and as suspected, no badging on rear driver’s side, just “AMG” on rear passenger deck... other than that, just go buy an S55 or CLS55 with the extra couple hundred grand.

They’re kidding, right? I know they’re not, but still... at a certain point, this ceases to make sense.

🤦🏾‍♂️

maw

Price is crazy on this - real miles unknown, so much non-original. Anything that needed this much restoration was likely not in the best shape beforehand. Having said that, its still a good looking car.

The thing that is amusing and not surprising any longer is how many of these "automotive journalists" always get some significant thing wrong about these cars.
Look at the caption under the first photo "All E60 AMGs came with the “Limited” sports interior package" .... someone should tell the boys at MB & AMG that, they may be surprised. It's easy to be a critic, so not trying to nitpick, but it would be good to read one article about these cars that was accurate.

We need a comment from the BaT “UnhingedTroll” guy on this one.

Agreed.
You can actually go to the article also and comment there. You could have a field day with the article and even some of the commentary.
Even the comments are humorous/embarrassing, some guy makes comment about the rarity of a "true E63".

I have to say though, that part of what I love about owning unicorns is that no one actually knows what they are. People literally “never even knew they made such a thing”. And that’s the point. Just January I drove my son to a soccer showcase in another state and while stopped for gas, a guy was like, “Nice car. I’ll trade you for the weekend.” I smiled politely, “No thanks” to which he replied “that thing looks really fast, and very comfortable.” A silent polite smile from me prompted, “Is it fast?”

He literally had no clue what he was looking at. He was just appreciative that the car “looked” fast and “nice”, which was funny because the S55 really doesn’t look fast or nice. It looks like an oldish Mercedes, that “might” maybe be fast but who knows, sort of thing. It might just have fast looking wheels. Same with these, “why does that car look different?” is the comment I get most, behind “what year is that?”

On this car, I really don’t understand the aftermarket tweeters. The dash ones are about as perfect for size and fitment as they come. A 4” coaxial properly crossed over and attenuated is about the best you can do. The whole dash area under the windshield becomes a stage.

maw

Still for sale. Admin edit: Current ask is €199k.

It's interesting that no one noticed these nifty covers for the rear seat pockets, mimics the center console box. Never seen these before.

hmm maybe it's a different car although I don't suspect there's a ton of these around. This was earlier in the year in April. There was your E60, a 500SL 6.0 and my E60T at the show.
The license plate on the E60 at the car show appears to be registered to a 2006 BMW M3Ci in Northbrook IL, which is a few miles away from Lake Forest.

:scratchchin:

My buddy threw a plate on it to drive it to the show…he lives in NB and at the time the car was in storage
at his facility..good work…

I think this was a new purchase so owner may have installed some plates to blend in traffic and drive it to the show.

Very clean car by the way @conbrio71. I don't know much about the W124 but seeing this car in person it looked presentable. Glad to see some of the modifications returned back to stock.
