Replacing Front Wheel Hub 33-0320
Preceding work: Removing and installing front wheel hub (33-0310) Removing and Installing Front Wheel Hub 33-0310

- Outer tapered roller bearing (9): Remove from front wheel hub (9). Remove grease from front wheel hub (step 1).
- Inner tapered roller bearing (9b) and radial sealing ring (9a): Press or drive out of front wheel hub (step 2).
- Outer race (9n) of inner tapered roller bearing (9b): Remove from front wheel hub (9) using puller 201 589 00 33 00 (step 3).
- Outer race (9o) of outer tapered roller bearing (9c): Drive out (step 4).
- Tapered roller bearing with outer race and front wheel hub: Wash out thoroughly with benzine or cold cleaner. Inspect. Refer to Notes (step 5).
- Outer races (9n and 9o): Install together in front wheel hub using puller 201 589 01 43 00 (step 6).
- Grease quantity for front wheel hub with tapered roller bearing and radial sealing ring: Weigh (refer to Technical Data 33-0010).
- Roller cage of inner tapered roller bearing: Pack roller cage with roller bearing grease, insert tapered roller bearing in front wheel hub and coat faces of rollers with roller bearing grease (step 8).
- Radial sealing ring (9a): Lightly coat contact surface and space between sealing lip and dust lip with roller bearing grease. Install radial sealing ring in front wheel hub as far as it will go using puller 201 589 01 43 00 (step 9).
- Front wheel hub: Fill with remaining grease (step 10).
- Outer tapered roller bearing: Pack roller cage with roller bearing grease, insert tapered roller bearing in front wheel hub and coat faces of rollers with roller bearing grease (step 11).
Special tools

Dismantling
1. Remove outer tapered roller bearing (9c) from front wheel hub (9).
2. On model 201, press out radial sealing ring (9a) using a screwdriver and remove inner tapered roller bearing (9b).
Caution: Do not damage the ABS rotor teeth.

On models 124 and 129, drive inner tapered roller bearing (9l) and radial sealing ring (9a) out of front wheel hub using drift (05a) 202 589 00 15 00

3. Remove outer race of inner tapered roller bearing (9b) from front wheel hub using puller (06) 201 589 00 33 00.

4. Drive outer race of outer tapered roller bearing out of front wheel hub:
- Model 201 using drift 201 589 04 15 00.
- Model 124 (small bearing) using a suitable drift.
- Model 124 (large bearing) and model 129 using drift 202 589 00 15 00.

Checking and repairing
5. Thoroughly wash out tapered roller bearing with outer race and front wheel hub with benzine or cold cleaner. Inspect and replace if necessary.
Notes
The tapered roller bearings are evaluated by checking the condition of the tracks of the inner and outer races, as well as the end surfaces of the tapered rollers. The tapered roller bearings can be re-used if the outer race shows the smooth gray mark of the tapered rollers.

- Check the inner tapered roller bearing to see if the roller cage or the faces of the rollers were damaged when the sealing ring was removed.
- Check the front wheel hub (refer to Technical Data 33-0010).
- Check threaded bores for wheel bolts.
- Always replace tapered roller bearings together with bearing races.
- On model 201.02/1 with 15" wheels, the front wheel hubs have a contact surface (a) that covers the entire surface. Hubs for 14" wheels have a 3.5 mm wide contact surface around the perimeter.
- In addition, the brake disk is now secured to the front wheel hub with a locking bolt (bore b).
Conversion
Conversion from 14" to 15" steel rims is only permissible after converting to front wheel hubs with all-over contact surface.

6. Install outer races (9n and 9o) in front wheel hub using puller (05a) 201 589 01 43 00.
Note
Ensure that the thrust washers (05b and 05c) are correctly seated.

7. Weigh grease quantity for front wheel hub with tapered roller bearing (refer to Technical Data 33-0010).
8. Thoroughly pack roller cage of inner tapered roller bearing with roller bearing grease, then insert inner race with roller cage in front wheel hub and apply grease to the faces of the rollers.

- 9a Radial sealing ring
- 05d Thrust washer for radial sealing ring
9. Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip of radial sealing ring (9a) with high-temperature roller bearing grease. Install radial sealing ring with puller (05d) 201 589 01 43 00.
10. Fill front wheel hub with remaining grease.
11. Thoroughly pack outer tapered roller bearing with roller bearing grease and install in wheel hub.
12. Install front wheel hub (33-0310).
