Highlights
  • One of only approximately 45 E 60 AMG Limited examples produced
  • Powered by a hand built 6.0 liter “M119” V8 rated at 381 horsepower
  • Finished in special order Sapphire Black Metallic (009) over a distinct Gray and Blue patterned leather (288) interior
  • The exemplar “wolf in sheep's clothing” sport sedan built in conjunction with Porsche

Description

Chassis No. WDB1240361C200075

Mercedes had a simple goal in the 1990s for their “W124” generation of E-Class: to once again prove to the world that their Munich-based rival BMW was not the king of sports sedans. To accomplish this goal, Porsche partnered with Mercedes to redesign the E-Class and fit a 5.0-liter V8 and then offered production assistance when the newly wider sports sedan (by two inches) wouldn't fit down the standard production line! The lengthy build process between Mercedes' Sindelfingen plant and Porsche's Karosserie Baur in Zuffenhausen took a remarkable 18 days!

As a final send-off for Mercedes' super sedan, a limited variant was available in 1994 and 1995. Denoted on the Data Card as option code 958, these cars were identifiable by the now famous patterned leather found on the front and rear seat center inserts, steering wheel, gear selector knob, and even the owner's manual pouch. Additionally, exclusive bird's-eye maple wood trim and 17-inch EVO II forged alloy wheels were unique to the car. When production ceased, a total of 951 E 500 Limiteds were produced. However exclusive the E 500 may have been, there was an even rarer variant produced, the E 60 AMG with its 381 horsepower, hand-built 6.0-liter V8. If selected, the AMG Technology Package option code 957 would appear on the data card. Combining the 957 and 958 option codes created one of the rarest and most highly prized variants of the W124 line, the E 60 AMG Limited.

The 1995 E 60 AMG Limited on offer is one of these highly sought after sport sedans, of which it is believed only 45 examples were built. Ordered new through the Munich sales branch, this example was specified in Sapphire Black Metallic (009) over a Gray leather (288) interior. More than just an upgraded engine, the AMG Technology Package also included an AMG exhaust system and an upgraded AMG tuned suspension, which was further enhanced with the 17 inch “Aero III” three-piece wheels with body-colored centers.

The accompanying history file shows that the car was in Japan prior to its importation to the United Arab Emirates in 2014. Once in Dubai, the car received regular servicing through 2021. The car was then imported to the United States in 2023. Exceedingly rare and highly desirable, this 1995 Mercedes-Benz E 60 AMG Limited is the ideal opportunity to experience the ultimate 1990s Mercedes super sedan.

Wrong-hand-drive headlights, bummer.

What's with the Gen2 bumpers front & rear, but non-Gen2 side skirts? Are the side skirts even AMG?

And, what's with the funky aftermarket temp sensor on the intake manifold, in place of the factory 2-pin temp sensor for the HVAC system?

The horn between the front fans is in the wrong location - why?

Number of oddities / concerns on this one...

Love the Audison / Hertz set up. That's a handy space for new audio equipment. Mine has a subwoofer there but I have to be careful laying golf clubs back there.

@jhodg5ck Nice photo documentation Jono!

Engine number matches the VIN, this could be a factory E60 AMG.

Replica "AMG" Front Bumper is pushed in, did you find out why?

That one pin sensor might be modified from having been in Dubai’s hot weather. To turn on the fans faster for cooling purposes in my opinion.

The factory original 2-pin sensor can have a resistor added to change when the fans turn on high speed. The 1-pin sensor doesn't make sense. Could be it's sending a signal to some aftermarket modification, and the HVAC system is not receiving any engine temp signal at all? I don't know, but stuff like this is way out of place on a half-million-Euro vehicle... IMNSHO.

Interestingly, I competed with this RUF CRT at the concours back in 2018 together with the Isderra 112I.
Now its estimated at around $1,200,000- $1,400,000

It was an impressive car and well documented, at that time with its second owner. It won 2nd place the year before.

Oh, this car is a hot mess...but anyway
Video! ... with commentary :jono:
You mean the "it's all here..., but..." as commentary? I mean, is the theory here that if the paint looks good enough and the car sounds good enough no one will bother to look very hard? Is that a pig they just put lipstick on? Help me understand. It's almost like the car was better before the "cosmetic upgrades." Why would you not detail the underside if you're trying to sell it for big money? And why would you not bother to match up the wheel bolts??

I'm being serious here because I really want to understand the thought process that produced what I just watched.

Best I can tell, someone is cashing in on the 957 Lottery with some 958 icing on the cake. Purchased for ±$100k and looking for $0.25M quick profit. Nice work if you can get it. Seller is likely banking on buyers donning rose-colored glasses over the rarity of the option codes and ignoring the actual condition...

:seesaw:

This is why I taught my kids the most important difference in life is that between doing something and doing it well. If you're not going to do it well, don't do it at all, because all you're doing by half assing it is creating a mess for someone else to come along and clean up in order to do it well.

I hate this shit. All they did was create a mess for someone who really wants the car to clean up. It was literally nicer before they touched it, because then someone could do it right.

speaking of Limiteds.. i served Micheal Strahan once at a trendy restaurant in the city in the mid 2000s

I wonder if the new owner has any idea how much €€€ it needs in restoration.

Soooo….. I am the dumba$$ that bought it. Wish I had seen this thread earlier…..does not pop up on a google search for the vin which I did etc but oh well.
I bid online….did not see the car physically. It will be here later in the week and I will have a closer look.

I was def swayed but the rarity of the option codes as was mentioned above. I am in the Dallas area. I plan on keeping the car for a while. Who can I work with in fixing some of the issues that need addresing?

Congratulations on the purchase - the unicorn of W124 imho. I’m sure someone will chime in with the ability to work on this wonderful car and get it right to your expectations.

Great memories riding in this car 8-9 years ago in Dubai - great day once I do recall out when it rained.

Don't let all the comments scare you. All of us regular posters are perfectionists. Will you be doing any wrenching yourself or looking to shops?

Here is a recommended shop somewhat close. Any recommendations in the Houston area? | Southern US
Over here in Atlanta Blueridge Mercedes can handle anything correctly you may need.
Hello…I will not be wrenching myself.

I guess I need to compile a list of things that need fixing first.

Welcome to the forum. You did not buy an overpriced car, just that in terms of authenticity, you will need to invest in the vehicle.

And its NOT the only E60 LTD that needs this investment, most of the examples offered/sold in the past few years needed such investments.

Its a January 1995 Munich Delivered E60 AMG Limited (Both codes 957 + 958). From the pictures in the thread you can see the Matching engine number (Proves that Factory E60 AMGs should have matching numbers) ... So this is a factory E60 AMG LIMITED ... Worth Top Dollar just for that!
